A shooting in Jefferson Parish has left an off-duty Westwego police officer and woman dead. Sheriff Newell Normand says 26-year-old Officer Michael Louviere was assisting a woman with an apparent car accident in Marrero this morning. He says that’s when a suspect fatally shot the woman and Louviere. Normand says they believe the woman had a relationship with the suspect, 32-year-old Sylvester Holt….

Holt fled the scene and authorities spent several hours trying to prevent him from jumping off the Crescent City Connection Bridge.

A West Monroe pizza delivery driver fatally shot a robbery suspect last night. Detective Ray Spoon says the shooter will not be charged as he acted in self defense. He says it’s unfortunate something like this happens…

Twenty-three federal inmates from Louisiana had their federal drug sentences reduced in an act peformed by Barack Obama in his final hours as President. Three of the individuals were serving a life sentence. LSU New Orleans Public Health Criminologist Peter Scharf says there’s been a push to stop issuing life-sentences for non-violent drug offenders, but the public still deserves an explantion on these commutations…
