Last week, an 18-year-old fraternity pledge died in what officials believe was a hazing incident involving alcohol.
A dozen years ago this Sunday, hurricane Rita made landfall. It was the last major hurricane to make a direct hit to Louisiana. It still ranks seventh for highest maximum sustained winds, which was 180 miles per hour. State Climatologist Barry Keim says, Rita was also a relatively quick moving storm.

The Louisiana Department of Wildlife and Fisheries has four events on Saturday to promote ‘National Hunting and Fishing Day.’ L-D-W-F spokesperson Joel Courtney these events are at rifle ranges in Haughton, Woodworth, and West Monroe, as well as the Waddill Wildlife Refuge in Baton Rouge.

Plus Sunday is “Clean Out Your Freezer Day” organized by the ‘Hunters for the Hungry.’ Hunters donate their surplus meat before they add to it this coming hunting season. It began nearly 25 years ago when a group of hunters thought it was a shame to waste so much of last year’s frozen game. Hunters For the Hungry Executive Director Jimmy Anthony says the event keeps growing in popularity each year.
