U.S. Attorney Walt Green of the state’s middle district is one of three Louisiana US attorneys who have resigned or retired after US Attorney General Jeff Sessions called for mass resignations last week. East Baton Rouge Parish District Attorney Hillar Moore says he’s disappointed and sent President Donald Trump a letter asking for Green to be kept on board.

US Attorney Kenneth Polite of the eastern district and Stephanie Finley of the western district have also stepped down.
LSU’s Pennington Biomedical Research Center is trying to solve the growing problem of childhood obesity. Dr. Amanda Staiano says the TIGER Kids program studies kids’ diets and physical activity. She says less than 10-percent of kids get the recommended amount of daily physical activity and hopes they can encourage them to be more active.

The trial begins today for Derrick Stafford, a Marksville City Marshal, accused of fatally shooting a six-year-old in 2015. Stafford is one of two officers accused of shooting into the victim’s vehicle killing Jeremy Mardis injuring his father, Chris Few. Legal Analyst Tim Meche expects Stafford’s defense attorney to bring up the possibility of a third shooter.

The other officer, Norris Greenhouse, Jr.’s trial is set to begin June 12th.
A measure has been filed for the legislative session that could put students in jail for bringing a fake gun to school. Bossier Parish Sheriff Julian Whittington urged the Haughton Rep. Dodie Horton to file the measure that if signed into law could fine a student 250 dollars or put them in jail for six months. He says the penalty is serious but so is the chance of a student getting shot.
