A homeowner shot and killed an alleged intruder in LaPlace last night. St. John the Baptist Parish Sheriff Mike Tregre says the homeowner told detectives he heard voices in his yard and went to investigate. Tregre says when he opened the back door, he was face-to-face with the intruder.

No charges have been filed against the homeowner.

St. Tammany Parish Coroner Charles Preston has ruled the death of Nanette Krentel a homicide. She was found dead in a home destroyed by a fire in Lacombe on July 7. Krentel is the wife of Fire District 12 Chief Stephen Krentel. Preston says they wanted to give this case the utmost attention and thoroughness…

St. Tammany Sheriff Randy Smith will hold a press conference tomorrow. In a press statement, the sheriff does not necessarily support the Coroner’s conclusion.

U.S Senator Bill Cassidy along with three of his GOP colleagues in the Senate unveiled a new health care proposal to repeal and replace the Affordable Care Act. South Carolina Senator Lindsey Graham says they are proposing block grant funding for the states to give the power back to the patients….

Meanwhile, Democrat Bernie Sanders is proposing to expand Medicare to cover all U-S residents.

Baton Rouge Police are seeking the principal of Laurel Oaks Charter School after he allegedly locked a five-year-old student in a closet as a form of punishment. Principal Shamsid-Deen is wanted on counts of cruelty to a juvenile. According to the warrant, two teachers found the child after hearing her screaming and crying inside a closet in the cafeteria. The girl told detectives the principal put her in the closet, because she was “bad.”
