Louisiana has joined 16 other states in filing a federal lawsuit which questions President Obama’s recent executive order dealing with immigration. The lawsuit claims the President’s action violated the “Take Care Clause” of the Constitution which limits the scope of presidential power. In a statement, Governor Bobby Jindal says Congress should work together to secure the border and what the president did is wrong.

Louisiana has petitioned the US Supreme Court to hear an appeal of Louisiana’s ban on gay marriage before a federal appeals court rules. A Federal Judge has already upheld Louisiana’s ban on same-sex marriage earlier this year and the 5th Circuit Court of Appeals is scheduled to hear the appeal January 9th. Tulane Constitutional Law Professor, Keith Werhan (wer-HAN), says side-stepping the appeals court may not be the right move…:

He says, now that there is a circuit split on the issue, Louisiana wants to make sure its case is heard in the nation’s highest court.

The Rapides Parish Sheriff’s office says a staff member at Red River Academy in Lecompte is under arrest for allegedly trying to rape a female teenage student. They were able to obtain warrants for 36-year-old Charles Allen of Cheneyville who was arrested for 1 count of sexual battery, one count of attempted forcible rape.
