According to a statement from his gubernatorial campaign, Republican US Senator David Vitter sent a letter to New Orleans Mayor Mitch Landrieu telling him to focus on murders, not monuments. Landrieu, a Democrat, recently criticized Vitter for comments he made about law enforcement in New Orleans. In the response letter, Vitter said that Landrieu should focus on crime instead of removing statues of Confederate leaders.
A Jefferson Davis Parish Sheriff’s deputy is being hailed a hero today after rescuing three people who were sleeping inside a burning home in Lacassine. State Police say they are looking for a driver they believe is at fault in a fatal hit and run crash in St. Mary Parish in Bayou Vista. Trooper Dustin Dwight says a motorcyclist was hit by 31-year-old Mark Montie Jr Of Pineville who pulled his truck out in front of him.
