State Superintendent of Education John White says it’s time to start paying the state’s teachers more money. As a guest on Talk Louisiana with Jim Engster this morning, White discussed the recovery of the economy and increased stability in the budget, now is the time to make sure teacher’s pay is keeping up with competition in other states and other industries. White says the message is very clear.

A new report from the American Cancer Society’s Cancer Action Network has evaluated Louisiana in its fight against the disease. Among the areas of concern, access to care, quality of life, and prevention. ACS-CAN spokesperson Lance Barbour says the state has fallen short in the legislative efforts to combat second hand smoke.
LSU’s Coach Ed Orgeron had a late afternoon press event yesterday addressing the recent departure of two of the team’s four quarterbacks, Noel Narcisse and Justin McMillan. Coach O says there’s no hard feelings between himself and the duo that are pulling up the stakes from Baton Rouge for other opportunities.

Two Pointe Coupee Parish Sheriff’s Deputies are out of a job after fessing up to fooling around on the clock together. Former Deputies Chris Kimble and Tiffany Brister admitted to making plans and heading over to a Pointe Coupee General Hospital bathroom and working a little more than a shift. Sheriff Bud Torres says he’s disappointed in the decisions made here, and says that’s not the conduct he expects out of Pointe Coupee Deputies.
