The state Office of Juvenile Justice says it has moved the youth juvenile offenders that were housed at a temporary facility at Angola to a new juvenile justice facility in Jackson Parish. The ACLU filed a civil rights lawsuit against the state in an effort to get the youths transferred from Angola.

A fatal disease known as lethal bronzing is killing off thousands of palm trees across south Louisiana. LSU Ag Center Plant Doctor, Raj Singh says the disease is wiping out 16 different types of palms across the state.

Singh says the disease is transmitted by a small insect known as a planthopper but there’s no cure.

There’s encouraging news about the endangered Kemp’s ridley sea turtles. Wildlife officials report successful hatchings of the sea turtle on the Chandeleur Islands off the coast of southeast Louisiana for a second year a in a row….

That’s coastal resources scientist manager with LDWF Matt Weigel, who says 300-thousand birds also rely on the islands during the course of the year. But he says the Chandeleur Islands are disappearing and design plans to restore the islands are underway.
