The LSU athletic department announces they’ve transferred ten million dollars over to the unviersity that will be used on academic and research initiatives on the Baton Rouge campus. Since 2012, the athletic department has given at least seven million dollars to the university, so LSU President F King Alexander says the additional dollars are welcomed on the heels of a challenging budget year.

The Shreveport Police Department says a 10-year-old boy who is believed to have accidentally shot himself last week has died. Corporal Marcus Hines says the child gained acess to the gun in his home on July 17th…:

Hines says the matter is under investigation but at this point it appears the incident is a tragic accident.

Governor Bobby Jindal has signed an executive order allowing the Louisiana National Guard to arm guards protecting military facilities. It states that the Guard is permitted to give military guards the means to protect themselves in order to preserve the lives, property, and the security of themselves and others subject to the threat of an attack.
