We now have our first hurricane of this year’s Atlantic Hurricane Season. Eric Gill reports…:

The Louisiana Department of Health and Hospitals confirmed a total of 20 cases statewide of West Nile virus so far this summer. They say 10 of this year’s cases have been neuroinvasive, two have been West Nile fever and eight have been asymptomatic. Health officials say whether your children are playing sports or your grilling outside, it’s very important to wear mosquito repellent.

The Jefferson Davis Parish Sheriff’s Office says they’ve arrested a man who is accused of keeping his 17-year-old girlfriend captive in a home also occupied by his 7-year-old child. Commander Chris Ivey says deputies responded to a Jennings home where they located the victim who told them she’d been held against her will by 27-year-old Terry Landry:

Ivey says the home was filthy and had no utilities or running water. The child was released to her mother. Landry is charged with domestic abuse battery, false imprisonment and criminal neglect.

It was a rough day Wednesday for the oil and gas industry. During a federal oil lease sale in New Orleans, only five companies placed bids on 33 tracts in the Western Gulf of Mexico which is the lowest in history.
