After seeing their four-game winning streak end Wednesday in Chicago, the Pelicans will try to start a new winning streak tonight when they visit Dallas. The Mavericks have won three in a row. It’s the first meeting of the season for the southwest division rivals. Tip-off is at 6:30.

Louisiana Tech men’s basketball will take on UAB in a two-game series beginning tonight at 6:30 in Ruston. UAB is one of the top teams in Conference USA, riding a six-game winning streak and boasting a 16-2 overall record. Tech coach Eric Konkol says what makes the Blazers so good is their aggressive defense.

UAB ranks in the top ten in the nation in field goal percentage defense and scoring defense.

Tomorrow LSU hosts 16th ranked Tennessee at one o’clock as the Tigers look for their first win over a ranked opponent.

ULM fans are happy today as the Warhawks men’s basketball team ended its ten-game losing streak by beating the Ragin Cajuns 72-66. ULM was led by Russell Harrish who had 17 points and ten rebounds. The Cajuns shot just 39-percent from the field.

But the U-L Lafayette women’s basketball team won a school-record 10th straight game last night beating ULM 65-51. The Lady Cajuns are 10-1 in the Sun Belt.

The Lady Tigers lost to Florida in overtime in the PMAC last night as the Lady Gators won 73-66 to drop LSU’s record to 8-and-9 overall.

LSU baseball is picked to finish fourth in the SEC West in a preseason poll of the league’s coaches. Sam Houston is the preseason favorite to win the Southland Conference. McNeese is picked to finish second and Southeastern Louisiana third.

Baseball America has named Louisiana Tech’s Parker Bates as the Conference USA Preseason Player of the Year.
