The loss drops LSU’s record to 21-5 overall, 11-2 in the SEC and into a tie with Kentucky for second place in the league.

UNO is in sole possession of third place in Southland after the Privateers ended Southeastern Louisiana’s five game winning streak with an 89-68 win. Bryson Robinson led the way with 23 points as he hit five three-pointers.

Nicholls took Southland Conference leader Sam Houston State into overtime, but the Bearkats dribbled past the Colonels 84-74.

And McNeese ended its five-game losing streak with an 83-75 win over Central Arkansas.

In college baseball, Louisiana Tech improved to 4-0 with a 3-2 win over the Ragin Cajuns in 10 innings. Senior Mason Robinson drove in the winning run with a two-out single. The Cajuns fall to 1-and-3 on the season. Tulane clobbered Lamar 22-10 as junior infielder Kody Hoese tied a school record with three home runs in one game.

The voice of Alex Box Stadium, Bill Franques, is taking a leave of absence as he needs treatment for prostate cancer. Franques says it was caught early enough that he expects a speedy recovery.

In high school sports, there are a couple of high profile head coaching moves in the Baton Rouge area. Chad Mahaffey is leaving University High after leading the Cubs to straight Division Two Championships to take the head coaching job at Walker.

And former LSU quarterback Marcus Randall is the new head coach at Woodlawn High School. Prior to the 2017 season, Randall was fired as head coach at Southern Lab after the LHSAA penalized the school for recruiting violations. Randall has since sued the LHSAA and Southern Lab for defamation and another hearing in that case is in April.
