Obviously the focus for the LSU baseball program is what happens this week, but there’s also an eye to the future. The Tigers have received a commitment from left-hander Justin Loer, who put up good numbers at Xavier University this season. In 57 innings pitched, Loer had an ERA of 1.89.
In college baseball coaching news…former Southeastern Louisiana Coach Matt Riser has landed a new job as he’s the new head coach at Memphis. And former LSU coach Paul Mainieri will reportedly interview for the head coaching vacancy at Miami. Mainieri retired as LSU’s baseball coach following the 2021 season. Health was a big factor as he was dealing with neck pain. Mainieri played high school baseball in Miami and also attended Miami-Dade Community College.
Junior college tight end Connor Gilbreath has committed to LSU. He’s six-foot-five, 265 pounds and Gilbreath told ON3 sports that he expects offensive coordinator Mike Denbrock will use him as a blocking tight end.
