Minden Congressman John Fleming is asking President Obama to hold a National Day of Prayer to stop violence against police officers. Louisiana has lost 6 cops in the line of duty already this year. Fleming says we can’t allow this pattern of targeting law enforcement to continue…:

He feels a National Day of Prayer like this would send a strong message to the country that violence against law enforcement must stop.

State Police has identified the woman who was killed while riding her bike in Tangipahoa Parish late at night. They say 35-year-old Ashley Thames of Robert was traveling on the US 190 Tangipahoa River Bridge when she was struck from behind by an SUV. She was pronounced dead on the scene. Investigators say there were no reflectors on the bike and it’s not expected that the driver of the vehicle will be cited.

The Department of Health and Hospitals says 82 percent of birth hospitals in Louisiana are providing families with access to breastfeeding support and resources. Amy Zapata is the Bureau of Family Health Director at DHH. She says improving breastfeeding rates is one of the most profound, low-cost measures to promote health of mothers and babies…:

She says their goal is to help educate Louisiana mothers on the importance of breastfeeding and to help hospitals strengthen support offered to new moms.

Louisiana’s governor’s race has its first negative commercial. It comes from a super pac supporting Senator David Vitter. The 30-second TV ad criticizes Vitter’s republican opponents, Scott Angelle and Jay Dardenne, for supporting tax increases. It’s been a quiet governor’s race as we are less than two months away from the October primary.
