State Senate President John Alario will be among the guests welcoming Pope Francis at the White House Wednesday morning. The pope arrives in the US tonight and his visit will see stops in Washington, DC, New York City, and Philadelphia through Sunday. Alario says the invitation to attend came out of the blue…:

Alario says he’s excited to be among those welcoming Pope Francis to the United States. The ceremony is scheduled for 8:15 Wednesday morning on the South Lawn of the White House.

The Calcasieu Parish Sheriff’s Office arrests a man for allegedly breaking into his ex girlfriend’s house and raping her at a home on University Drive in Lake Charles. They believe 37-year-old Joshua Duplechin of Lake Charles forced his way into the residence by breaking a window, then threatened the victim before raping her. Cops say she was able to call for help and Duplechin was still there when they arrived. He is charged with home invasion and 2nd degree rape. His bond is set at $250,000.

The West Feliciana Parish Sheriff’s Office is releasing more information about the deadly shooting incident in Monday. They’ve identified the suspect, 30-year-old Anthony Nixon of St. Francisville, as the uncle to the victim, 28-year-old Brandon Nixon also of St. Francisville. Details on a motive are not known at this time. Anthony Nixon is charged with second degree murder.
