We’ll be getting a major break from the summer heat this weekend as a cold front moves in late tonight. Jonathan Brazzell, with the National Weather Service in Lake Charles, says we can expect low temperatures in the mid 50s throughout the state…:

He says Saturday’s afternoon highs will be in the mid 80s and move into the low 80s by Sunday.

With LSU and the Saints both kicking off their season openers this weekend on the road, Louisiana restaurants are expecting fans to pour in. Erica Burns with the Louisiana Restaurant Association says after the summer lull, the packed houses will be a nice boost for establishments. She says bars and restaurants often see increased business during football season…:

She says business is typically slow during the summer but Louisiana restaurants start to serve more patrons once football gets in full swing.

Former Shreveport Mayor Cedric Glover has qualified to run for his old District 4 seat in the Louisiana House of Representatives. Glover, a Democrat, held the same spot in the House from 1996 to 2006 before he was elected Mayor of Shreveport. Political analyst Elliott Stonecipher says Glover is very popular in that district…:

He says it’ll be interesting to see if the other candidates in this race really decides to take Glover on.

The Terrebonne Parish Sheriff’s Office says a Houma man is under arrest for attempted second degree murder after his girlfriend showed up at a gas station with multiple stab wounds. They say the suspect, 35-year-old Ashraf Khalil, was on scene when deputies arrived and taken into custody. They believe the incident happened inside a vehicle and the 23-year-old victim suffered wounds to her arm, back, chest, hand and her throat was cut. She is in critical condition.
