Two companies with operations in the state have sent notices to the Louisiana Workforce Commission about planned layoffs. GE Oil & Gas said about 269 of its 289 workers in Pineville will be let go with the reductions slated to begin September 2nd. Blue Sky Innovations said it was given notice to end its contract resulting in 55 layoffs starting July 31st.

A man is dead after an officer involved shooting early this morning outside of a convenience store in Baton Rouge. Cpl. L’ Jean McKneely says officers responded to an anonymous tip that someone had a gun in the area and it needed to be checked out by authorities. He says that’s when a scuffle occurred and 37-year-old Alton Sterling was shot and killed by an officer…:

Sterling was pronounced dead and McKneely says only one officer fired his weapon.

A scientist at LSU Health Shreveport had a part in a deal seeking to develop cancer immunotherapy drugs. Professor Doctor Robert Rhoads says the parmacutical company Sanofi has set up a licesing fee to see if immunotherapy could work with other types of cancer as it’s already used to treat melanoma and prostate cancer…:
