The state fire marshal’s office says two are dead after a fire in Madisonville. Fire Marshal Butch Browning says they believe the fire was caused by a propane tank with an outdoor heating element attached. Browning says when first responders arrived at the scene the fire had already taken it’s toll.

The National Weather Service is predicting strong to severe weather this weekend through most of Louisiana. After breaking records in rainfall last month, the Red, Mississippi and Ouachita Rivers in North and Central Louisiana are swollen and still above flood stage. State Climatologist Barry Keim says this is the last thing residents along those waterways want to see…

Baton Rouge Senator Dan Claitor wants to settle the argument over whether voters should have the opportunity to elect someone who is over 70 years old.  Claitor has filed a constitutional amendment that would allow a person over the age of 70 to be elected as a judge. He‘s filed the two pieces of legislation so the legislature can have an open discussion on whether elderly residents should be elected to pubic office…

New Orleans Democrat Senator Troy Carter has filed a bill to raise the state minimum hourly wage to $9.50 for businesses with more than 50 employees by August 2019. 18 states started the year with increased wages and an additional 19 states adopted higher wages in 2017. Carter says in light of WalMart’s recent announcement of employee bonuses and Target raising their minimum wage, it’s time for Louisiana to step up…
