A bill is introduced that would require all public schools offer students the chance to recite the pledge of allegiance. Matt Doyle has the story.

Cancer screenings, prevention, and education are at the center of a more than $600,000 grant to a cancer center in Louisiana. The three-year investment will go towards the Mary Bird Perkins Cancer Center. It will help 12 parishes along the Mississippi River Delta with some of the highest rates of cancer and but also some of the latest-stage diagnoses.

Louisiana Tech receives a $1.2 million grant from the National Science Foundation to foster computer science education in north Louisiana. Dean of the College of Education at Louisiana Tech Don Schillinger says the money will also help in providing freshmen and sophomore students with internship opportunities to give them a taste as to what it is like to be a STEM educator.

Coronavirus is on the radar of the Lt. Governor’s office as tourism in Louisiana could see big losses from the spread of the illness. Some of Louisiana’s biggest festivals, including the New Orleans Jazz and Heritage Festival, begins next month.  While no cases have surfaced in Louisiana yet, Lt. Gov. Billy Nungesser says an outbreak could be devastating.
