When Republican Representative Daryl Deshotel of Marksville deposited $1 million of his own into his campaign account it sent up a flare that the freshman lawmaker might have his eyes on a higher office. When asked Deshotel says he’s thinking about it and with the Lieutenant Governor and possibly State Treasurer running for Governor and things are opening up.

As for which statewide office, he says he’s keeping it open-end right now.

Among the bills filed for the March Legislative Session is House Bill 47 from Gonzales Republican Kathy Edmonston. It would require more open communication on immunization requirements between schools and parents. Current state law has provisions to opt-out of vaccines, but most aren’t aware
