Rapides Parish remains in shock over the tragic death of former longtime sheriff William Earl Hilton, who was killed in what investigators are calling a hit-and-run. Current Sheriff Mark Wood says he’s devasted over the death of the 80-year-old Hilton.

A 53-year-old woman from Pollock has been charged in Hilton’s death. Ladonna Delrie faces a first-degree murder charge.

Legislation that would give lawmakers an opportunity to remove judges that are deemed incompetent is heading to the Senate floor. A simple majority vote in the House and a two-thirds vote in the Senate could result in the removal of a judge. Evangeline Parish Senator Heather Cloud likes this approach.

Opponents say the state constitution already allows for the state legislature to impeach a judge, but the bill’s author says the constitution is not clear on this issue.

 

State lawmakers have started to advance legislation that would allow the Louisiana Gaming Control Board to set up a rule where they can ban a person from placing sports bets in Louisiana if they harass a college athlete. Leesville Senator Mike Reese says a recent ESPN report found that one in three high profile college athletes receive abusive messages from bettors…

Reese is the author of the legislation, and he says Ohio and West Virginia have already passed this law and the NCAA is encouraging more states to do the same. It heads to the Senate floor for more discussion.
