Louisiana leaders are increasingly concerned about bird flu following the USDA’s confirmation of a second strain in U.S. dairy cattle. But Agriculture Commissioner Mike Strain says the virus has not yet been detected in the state’s commercial poultry operations.

A lieutenant with State Police has been arrested following an off-duty domestic violence incident. Baton Rouge Police took into custody last night 40-year-old James Jefferson the Third. He was booked with domestic abuse battery, with child endangerment. Jefferson has been employed by State Police since 2007.
