There are two tropical storms that could impact Louisiana next week. Tropical Storm Laura is the biggest threat. Laura is currently producing heavy rains over portions of Puerto Rico. The storm is heading west at 18 miles per hour and it will move over Haiti, Dominican Republic and Cuba, before moving into the Gulf of Mexico and developing into a Category one hurricane. A strong Category one storm could make landfall along Louisiana’s coast Wednesday night.
There’s also Tropical storm Marco which is expected to become a hurricane later today over the northwest Caribbean Sea. Tim Destri, with the National Weather Service in Slidell, says Marco will head towards Louisiana, before turning west Monday and weakening to a tropical storm….

State Police announce a black man shot by police in Lafayette last night has died from his injuries. State Police Trooper Derek Senegal says Lafayette police officers responded to a disturbance involving a person armed with a knife at a gas station and the subject then walked to another gas station with officers right behind him…

The man shot has been identified as 31-year-old Trayford Pellerin and he died at a local hospital. Senegal says officers deployed Tasers as they pursued Pellerin, but they were ineffective. A bystander caught the episode on video, which has since gone viral, and you can hear officers fire multiple shots.
ULM football is pausing its preseason camp, because COVID testing produced nine positive cases. The school is hoping they can resume practice early next week. The Warhawks first game is September fifth at Troy.
