Governor Edwards is set to hold a 2PM press conference today where many believe he will announce whether or not the state is moving into Phase Three. Edwards says recent metrics are encouraging in Louisiana’s battle against the spread of COVID-19.

The state moved into Phase 2 on June 5th and on July 13th had a modification added closing bars and mandating mask usage while inside businesses.
Superintendent of Education Cade Brumley certainly hopes the state can progress to Phase Three, where classroom sizes can expand and students can get more in-person education than they currently are. Brumley says schools have demonstrated they can comply with necessary safety rules like mask usage…

Cleco has restored power to 95 percent of their customers about a week and a half since Hurricane Laura first made landfall. Cleco spokesperson Jennifer Cahill says the timeline on restoration for remaining customers hinges on the types of damages an area sustained.

96 percent of customers in Calcasieu Parish, which is Entergy territory, are still without power.

Lake Charles Mayor Nic Hunter says the rebound process from Hurricane Laura is an intense process and it is going to take a long time. Hunter says the city is doing the best it can to pick up the pieces and put things back together again.
