In Avoyelles Parish a 12-person jury found former Marksville City Marshal, Derrick Stafford, guilty of manslaughter and attempted manslaughter in the fatal shooting of a 6-year-old. Stafford and another officer, Norris Greenhouse Jr, were accused of opening fire into a vehicle with the child and his father, Chris Few, inside. Stafford took the stand yesterday and said he believed Few would use the vehicle as a weapon and would’ve never fired if he knew a child was inside. Stafford will be sentenced on March 31st.

Tomorrow Spike will air a new episode of its TV show ‘Bar Rescue’ featuring Big Mike’s in Denham Springs. Veteran bar consultant and host John Taffer stepped up to help after the bar was devastated by the August flood. Bar owner Mike O’Neal says they don’t know how long it would have taken to rebuild on their own.

US Republicans in the House have abruptly pulled President Donald Trump’s health care overhaul bill as they didn’t have the votes. US Senator Bill Cassidy says he has a plan to meet the county’s healthcare needs in a way that’s fiscally conservative and lowers premiums. Congressman Ralph Abraham says this bill was the first step to reform the United State’s healthcare system. He also says he is disappointed his fellow Republicans defeated these goals by sinking the measure.

It’s Election Day in Louisiana. 37 parishes across the state have local and some big seats up for vote. On the ballot for the 3rd and 4th Circuit Court of Appeals and the Civil District Court in New Orleans are all female candidates. Secretary of State Tom Schedler says the polls open at 7 a.m. and close at 8 p.m.
