A Jefferson Parish Sheriff’s deputy is in critical condition after he was shot several times while executing a drug search warrant at a residence in New Orleans. Thirty-five-year-old Steven Arnold was working with the Drug Enforcement Administration. A suspect has been taken into custody.
A ruling is expected today on whether Louisiana can have a law on its books that requires doctors who perform abortions to be able to admit patients to a hospital within 30 miles. Supporters say the law will protect the health of a woman, while opponents say the legislation is designed to make it harder to get an abortion.

This will be the third time that Kennedy has run for US Senate. Republican Congressman Charles Boustany and John Fleming are also running this year and Rob Maness, who ran two years ago, will officially jump into the race tomorrow.
LSU System President F. King Alexander warns that students at the Baton Rouge campus will see higher student fees and hundreds of faculty members and courses will be eliminated if state is unable to find revenue sources to close a 750-million dollar budget hole this fiscal year. Other colleges around the state will be forced to make cuts as well.
