BESE is slated to meet today behind closed doors to discuss the job future of Education Superintendent John White. Board member Kathy Edmonston of Gonzales says she would like to see the entire panel vote on whether or not White stays in the position he’s held for five and a half years. An American Cancer Society Cancer Action Network Report finds Louisiana is slacking when it comes to implementing policies to reduce and prevent tobacco use. About 33-percent of cancer deaths in the Bayou State are a result of tobacco use. ACS CAN Spokesperson Lance Barbour says lawmakers could save lives just by increasing the tax on a pack of cigarettes.

Gas prices seem to be leveling off after peaking over the last few weeks, according the GasBuddy. Patrick DeHann with GasBuddy expects gas prices to continue this trend for the next few weeks before they drop in mid to late September. He credits a low gasoline tax and the oil industry for the low prices in the Bayou State.

The ACLU of Louisiana has sent a letter to LSP Superintendent Col. Kevin Reeves after a man was ticked for giving the middle finger to a state trooper on I-20 near Rayville. Executive Director Marjoie Esman says the man was charged with felony public intimidation.
