The Supreme Court has lifted a hold placed on Louisiana congressional maps thus opening the door for the maps to be redrawn. The order means lower court proceedings on the case can continue. The Court of Appeals Fifth Circuit will rule if the maps need to be redrawn to add a second majority-black district. The Supreme Court of the United States’ decision to return the issue to the lower court is on the heels of a 5-4 ruling that Alabama’s congressional maps must be redrawn.

Legislation to create a crime prevention district in and around LSU’s campus has been signed by the governor. Bill author, Baton Rouge Representative Barbara Freiberg says the district goes to a vote and once favorable a board will be appointed, and board members decide how security will be implemented.
