The national champions are home. Andrew Greenstein reports from Alex Box Stadium, where LSU fans gave the College World Series champs a heroes’ welcome.

LSU women’s basketball coach Kim Mulkey was not at Alex Box Stadium to greet the baseball team. That’s because she was at the East Baton Rouge Parish courthouse serving jury duty. Mulkey was among the hundreds of potential jurors waiting to see whether they would be selected to serve on a jury.
In the regular session, state lawmakers approved a bill that creates the Excellence Award within the TOPS program. It’s for high school students who achieve a 31 or higher on the ACT and have a 3.5 GPA or higher. Students who qualify can receive up to 12-thousand dollars to cover tuition at any Louisiana university. Ruston Representative Christopher Turner says TOPS is an investment in the state’s best and brightest students, and like any investment, Turner hopes to see a return.
Students currently receiving TOPS will not be eligible for the new award.
