Military officials say a North Carolina based Army paratrooper was killed during a training exercise at Fort Polk. An Army spokesperson says 19-year-old Pvt. Joshua Phillips of Las Vegas, Nevada died while parachuting during an exercise. The cause of Phillips’s death is currently under investigation and no further information is being released. Phillips was a member of the 82nd Airborne and joined the Army in 2014.

Pierre Part Representative Karen St. Germain, chairwoman of the Louisiana House Transportation Committee, proposes a one cent sales tax that could generate $7 billion dollars over the next decade to help fund roads and bridges. She says there are many important issues being discussed this legislative session and this should be one of them…

St. Germain also has a bill that would increase the state tax on gasoline based on the price at the pump to help offset depletion of revenues that are supposed to be dedicated to improving highway capacity and infrastructure.

According to the USDA, honey production in the United States was up 19 percent last year and continues to climb.
