State Police say a weekend traffic stop in Ouachita Parish resulted in the seizure of 10 pounds of marijuana. When troopers pulled over 25-year-old Michael Wilson for a traffic violation, he appeared to be nervous and shaky. The troopers obtained permission to search his vehicle and that’s when they found the marijuana in the trunk. Wilson and his passenger, 24-year-old Steven Degrate, are charged with possession with the intent to distribute marijuana and conspiracy to distribute.
The number of people employed in mining and logging, which includes the oil sector, is at its lowest level since December 2005, according to the Louisiana Workforce Commission. Executive Director Curt Eysink says job losses in the oil sector are starting to impact other areas of the state’s economy
