A new survey by Cygnal shows Democratic Monroe Mayor Jamie Mayo has a slight lead in the 5th District Congressional race. Mayo polled 19-percent of the vote, followed by Republican incumbent Vance McAllister with 17-percent. A man charged in the 2012 death and dismemberment of Bourbon Street dancer, Jaren Lockhart, has completed his federal prison term and is awaiting extradition to Louisiana. 41-year-old Terry Speaks was released from a New York federal prison yesterday on an unrelated charge. In August, Speaks and his alleged accomplice, 30-year-old Margaret Sanchez were indicted on several charges, including second degree murder, in Lockhart’s death.
