Alexandria Police have arrested a suspect in a Tuesday morning shooting that left one man hospitalized. When officers arrived at the scene, they found the victim being treated by EMS personnel for a gunshot wound to the chest. The victim was transported to a local hospital where he was listed in stable condition. The suspect, 18-year-old Desmond Harris, was taken into custody at the scene without incident. Harris is charged with one count of attempted first degree murder.

The Jefferson Parish Sheriff’s Department says a man is under arrest accused of attacking another man with a machete. It’s reported that 32-year-old Akando Ducksworth and the victim were involved in an augument outside a Metairie business. Authorities say surveillance video shows Ducksworth leaving the premises and later returning with a machete that he used to allegely attack the victim. Ducksworth is charged with aggravated second degree battery.

Governor Bobby Jindal’s presidential campaign team is looking to change the current debate criteria so Jindal will be included in the next Republican presidential debate. Current Republican National Committee/CNBC criteria requires a candidate to average at least 2.5-percent in six different national polls to make a debate. The campaign argues that basing criteria solely on national polls is meaningless at this point in the race. The campaign says ignoring polls in early primary states does not reflect reality and is a disservice to the candidates and voters. The next debate is October 28th.

An 11-year-old girl with Down Syndrome from the DeSoto Parish town of Stonewall is making international headlines this year after a video of her reaction to being accepted on the cheerleading squad went viral. Lacey Parker’s mother, Renee, says she’s blown away by all the attention the video is getting as it’s had more than 30 million views, but knows this is a feel good story that makes people smile. Parker says the principal at North DeSoto Middle School called them to ask Lacey to try out for the squad because cheering is about having heart and passion and nobody has more than she does.
