The St. Landry Parish Sheriff’s Office says a 17-year-old girl is dead after a tree fell on her car near Plaisance. They say Gabrielle Lajack was sitting in a parked car in her driveway when the incident occurred. Lajack was pronounced dead at the scene by the St. Landry Parish Coroner.

Southeastern Louisiana University has joined forces with LSU’s Pennington Biomedical Research Center in creating a new program to help college students prepare for careers working with children who are overweight. Pennington Assistant Professor, Dr. Amanda Staiano, says the primary purpose of Project I-PAL is to try to prepare college students for their future jobs…

Staiano says the program will launch this fall when the kids head back to school.

The Sterlington Police Department has arrested a man after allegedly setting his pregnant girlfriend on fire during an argument over bills. Chief Barry Bonner says the victim was transported to the burn center in Jackson, Mississippi with second and third degree burns all over her body. He says cops were told by family members that the victim was 9 weeks pregnant…

23-year-old Darren Lambert is charged with aggravated domestic abuse involving the burning of a victim.
