There has been a recent rash of child drownings in southeast Louisiana, and state officials are issuing reminders when it comes to kids being around water. Mona Michelli with DCFS says children should be taught to swim with a partner, and parents should be mindful about leaving toys around pool areas…:

Seven members of The New Black Panther party were arrested Wednesday during a protest outside Baton Rouge Police Headquarters, on the one year anniversary of the shooting death of Alton Sterling. Sgt. L’Jean McKneely says they entered a barricaded area and refused to leave, which is why they were booked…:

State Police is investigating an officer involved shooting in Mamou. Details are limited at this time, but reports indicate an Evangeline Parish Sheriff’s Deputy was injured and transported to a local hospital, and one person is dead. More on this as it develops.

Injured Congressman Steve Scalise has been readmitted to ICU, and condition upgraded to serious over new concerns of an infection.
