Federal prosecutors say a Mississippi man is sentenced to a year in federal prison for a beating at Fort Polk. They say 23-year-old Justin Corey Thurston of McLain, Mississippi pleaded guilty to assaulting his ex-wife and striking a man in the head with a baseball bat last September. Thurston’s sentence also includes three years of supervised release.

In response to Louisiana Radio Network’s latest question, the four candidates for governor say they want to take steps to reduce the number of people in Louisiana who live below the federal poverty line. Republican Scott Angelle says we need to ramp up our technical and community college programs, strengthen the Louisiana family, and increase job creation…

Louisiana’s Annual Sales Tax Holiday begins today. Over the next two days, the 4% state sales tax on the first 25 hundred dollars of each item a customer buys will be waived. Department of Revenue spokesperson Kizzy Payton says shoppers should keep in mind that not all items and services qualify for the tax holiday…
