The LSU Baseball team dropped its series opener with Hawaii as the Rainbow Warriors hit three home runs in a 4-2 victory over the Tigers. LSU couldn’t buy a hit with runners in scoring position as they were 1-for-14 in those situations. The Tigers will look to even up the series tonight with game two of the series at 6:30.
Nick Lee struck out 10 in eight innings as the Ragin Cajuns defeated South Alabama two to one.
In the Southland, Central Arkansas crushed McNeese six to one, Nicholls nipped Northwestern State five to four and Southeastern Louisiana outscored UNO seven to six. Drew Avans had three hits and drove in two.
The Southeastern Louisiana men’s basketball team is one win away from an automatic berth in the NCAA Tournament after beating Sam Houston State 89-79. The top-seeded Lions will play in Stephen F Austin in the Southland Tournament championship tonight. The Lumberjacks eliminated Nicholls with a 78-66 victory.
The Pelicans 10-game winning streak ended last night with a 116-97 loss to the Washington Wizards. Anthony Davis didn’t play for New Orleans as he sat with a sprained ankle. With Davis on the bench, the Wizards dominated the glass and had 18 second-chance points.
The Ragin Cajuns basketball team is in the semifinals of the Sun Belt Tournament. UL Lafayette thumped Texas State 80-54 last night and they’ll play UT Arlington at 11:30 this morning in New Orleans. Georgia Southern eliminated ULM as the Panthers beat the Warhawks 63-55.
At the boys state tournament….it was a big night for Acadiana, as Lafayette Christian, Carencro (Care-in-crow) and St. Thomas More each won state championships. Summerfield won its seventh state title. Today, Peabody looks to go back-to-back as the 3A champs as the Warhorses face Madison Prep.
And in the NFL, the Cleveland Browns completed three big trades and in one of the deals they acquired former LSU star Jarvis Landry from Miami for two draft picks.
