An American Automobile Association Foundation for Traffic Safety study shows that distraction in teen crashes is worse than previously thought. A Lafayette jury has convicted Seth Fontenot of manslaughter in the shooting death of 15-year old Austin Rivault. He was also convicted of two counts of aggravated battery for wounding two other teenagers who were with Rivault. Fontenot shot the teens in February 2013 when he thought they were breaking into his truck. He claims he only fired to scare the teens, not to hurt them. Fontenot faces up to 40-years in prison on the manslaughter conviction.
