Louisiana Tech running back Kenneth Dixon is named the Lousiana Sports Writers Association’s Offensive Player of the Week. Dixon set a Conference USA record rushing for six touchdowns in the Bulldog’s 56-13 win over North Texas. Nicholls State’s Ahmaini Martin was named LSWA’s Defensive Player of the Week. Martin had 10 tackles and an interception in the Colonels win over Lamar last Saturday.

The new CFP rankings come out tonight and CBSsports-dot-com’s Jerry Palm believes there’s still a chance that LSU will be one of four teams to make it to the College Football Playoff. But he says if both LSU and Alabama win the rest of their games, the Tigers could end up being the SEC representative in the Sugarbowl…

LSU still has to defeat Arkansas, Ole Miss and Texas A&M to stay alive. Palm says having one loss doesn’t automatically mean you won’t make the playoffs.

The New Orleans Saints have signed former LSU quarterback Matt Flynn to the roster. Flynn will step in and replace Luke McCown as the back up to starting quarterback Drew Brees. McCown injured his back last week and was placed on the injured reserve list to open a roster spot for Flynn. McCown is expected to have surgery on his back today, which will end his season.

The Pelicans are still looking for win number one this season. They’re hoping to get it tonight against the Mavericks at the Smoothie King Center.
