Angola warden Burl Cain says he’s thinking about running for governor. He says the thought of running for governor first came up a year ago, when he performed well in a poll on the 2015 governor’s race. — but he’s not sure when he’d make a final decision.

If Senator David Vitter is elected governor next year, 4th District Representative John Fleming wants to succeed him in the Senate. In a written statement, Fleming says his focus is on his district, but he would be interested in running for the seat Vitter would vacate. Political analyst Elliot Stonecipher says it’s a little early to start speculating on would take Vitter’s place…:

Earlier this year, NHC debuted color coded maps showing where and how high water could rise as storms approach land. Rhome says these storm surge alerts will also give you an indication of when the threat could impact an area. He says a storm surge warning is nothing to be taken lightly…

Two students at the Ascension Parish Alternative School in Darrow have been arrested, in separate incidents, accused of battery on school officials. The Ascension Parish Sheriff’s Office says both incidents occurred during arguments over school policy. Both students are charged with battery of a teacher.

LSU senior left tackle La’el Collins has received the Jacobs Blocking Trophy, which goes to the Southeastern Conference’s most outstanding blocker. Louisiana Tech quarterback Cody Sokol is the Conference USA newcomer of the year. And Ragin Cajuns sophomore Elijah McGuire has been named the Sun Belt’s player of the year.

In college basketball…the Ragin Cajuns defeated Louisiana Tech 94-86. Shawn Long had 24 points and 15 rebounds for UL Lafayette, while the Bulldogs Erik McCree had 25 points.

In the NBA…the Pelicans lost another close game on the road. Dallas defeated New Orleans 112-107. Anthony Davis had 31 points and 11 rebounds. But Dallas had four players score 20 points or more and led by Monta Ellis 26 points. The Pels are now 10-11. They host Cleveland tomorrow night.

Deputies say two students from Ascension Parish Alternative School were arrested on Wednesday in separate incidents involving a battery on educators. They say a 16-year-old was arrested for allegedly kicking and punching an administrator and a 19-year-old, Tyrone Pitts, was arrested accused of beating up his teacher. They were both booked with battery of a teacher.

Southwest Louisiana got some good news yesterday as Venture Global LNG announces plans to build a $4 billion dollar processing complex and export terminal at Calcasieu Pass in Cameron Parish. Construction is expected to begin at the 203 acre site in the third quarter of 2016 is set to start operating by late 2019. LSU Economist Dr. Loren Scott says the economy in Louisiana is looking brighter than ever…:

The Saints reportedly worked out kicker Garrett Hartley yesterday. Hartley was released by the Black and Gold towards the end of last season and replaced by Shayne Graham, who has been the team’s field goal kicker since. Graham is 18-of-20 field goals this year, but he did miss a 42-yarder last Sunday.

Monta Ellis scored 13 of his 26 points in the final four and a-half minutes of the game as the Dallas Mavericks upended the Pelicans 112-107. Jrue Holiday scored 31 and Anthony Davis threw in 30 as the Pels fall to 10-11 on the season. The Pelicans host Lebron James and the Cleveland Cavaliers tomorrow night.

And Ragin Cajuns sophomore Elijah McGuire has been named the Sun Belt’s player of the year. The all-purpose back rushed for over 1,000 yards this season and led the league with all-purpose yards per game.
