There was a collective cheer from the purple and gold nation yesterday after the news broke that true freshman Brandon Harris is the new starting quarterback at LSU. Coach Les Miles says Harris deserves a chance to start this Saturday against fifth ranked Auburn after leading the Tigers on seven consecutive touchdown drives against New Mexico State on Saturday. Miles says Harris made quality decisions with the football:

Harris will make his first collegiate start at Auburn and raucous crowd is expected for this SEC West clash.

The Louisiana Sports Writers Association named Harris the Offensive PLayer of the week. ULM’s Michael Johnson got defensive honors from the LSWA and Warhawk Justin Manton got special teams honors in their amazing 22-20 win over Troy on Saturday.

Saints Coach Sean Payton says there needs to be a sense of urgency this week to correct the mistakes that has led to a 1-and-3 start. On Monday, Payton listed several reasons why the team has struggled. He says a negative turnover ratio of negative six, which is tied for worst in the NFL is near the top of the list…:

In the NBA, the Pelicans begin training camp today. New Orleans has aspirations to make the playoffs this season, but they can’t have injuries derail their season like they did last year. The team has already said forward Tyreke Evans could miss up to five weeks because of a hamstring injury.

LSU Coach Les Miles announced today true freshman Brandon Harris will start at quarterback when the 15th ranked Tigers visit fifth ranked Auburn. Harris led LSU to seven consecutive touchdown drives when he replaced a struggling Anthony Jennings on Saturday. Miles explained why he chose to make the announcement today….

A lot went wrong in the Saints 38-17 loss to the Dallas Cowboys last night. For the third straight game, the defense failed to produce a turnover. Meanwhile, the offense turned it over three times. Coach Sean Payton says you can’t win many games when the turnover ratio is negative three…

The 1-and-3 Saints host Tampa Bay this Sunday. The Bucs are also 1-and-3.

Instead, the Saints are tied for last in the division with Tampa Bay at one-and-three after a 38-17 loss to Dallas. Coach Sean Payton says it’s been a frustrating start to the season…

For the third straight game, the Saints defense failed to produce a turnover. Meanwhile the offense turned it over three times.

New Orleans is back home this Sunday to face Tampa Bay. The Bucs rallied to beat Pittsburgh 27-24 yesterday. Former LSU Tiger Russell Shepard had two catches for 30 yards.

Saturday was not a good night for LSU Quarterback Anthony Jennings as he threw two interceptions and one fumble and fans were chanting for Coach Les Miles to replace him with Brandon Harris. Once Harris got into the game, he led the Tigers to seven straight scoring drives. Coach Les Miles was asked if Jennings lost his confidence…

Southeastern Louisiana quarterback Bryan Bennett is playign with a lot of confidence. Bennett accounted for 301 yards of offense and four touchdowns in the Lions 63-7 win over Incarnate Word. Bennett was named today as the Southland Conference Offensive Player of the Week.

The Saints had an opportunity to move into a first place tie in the NFC South with a win last night in Dallas, instead New Orleans got off to a slow start and lost to the Cowboys 38-17. It took until the fourth quarter for the Saints to score a touchdown, while the defense allowed Tony Romo to throw for three touchdowns and DeMarco Murray to rush for 149 yards. Coach Sean Payton says they struggled in all areas of the game…:

The 1-and three Saints are now tied for last in the NFC South with Tampa Bay who they play Sunday before having a bye.

Carolina and Atlanta both lost on Sunday so if New Orleans would have won yesterday they would be in a two-and-two tie for first place in the division.

Freshman Brandon Harris made his case to be the starting quarterback as he threw for 178 yards and three touchdowns in LSU’s 63-7 win over New Mexico State. Harris also rushed for two TDs as the Tigers scored in all seven positions he was in at quarterback. But Coach Les Miles says a decision on who will be the starting quarterback will be made to the team first…:

LSU travels to face No. 5 Auburn on Saturday. The Tigers did move up two spots in the AP poll after the win and now sit at No. 15.

ULM is 3-1 for the first time since 1993 after pulling out a 22-20 win over Troy on Saturday night.

LSU concludes its four-game homestand tonight with a non-conference game against New Mexico State. Many Tiger fans are wondering if LSU will be up to play this game, after a tough loss last week and a big game against Auburn coming up. Coach Les Miles says LSU will be ready….

Miles says Anthony Jennings will likely take the first snap at quarterback tonight, but he says they plan to give true freshman Brandon Harris plenty of snaps as well.

Also in the SEC today…fifth ranked Auburn will host Louisiana Tech. A matchup to watch in this game is Bulldogs running back Kenneth Dixon against Auburn’s defense. The War Eagles have only allowed 86 yards on the ground this season. Kick-off on the SEC Network is at 3 PM.

ULM has a good opportunity to improve to 2-and-0 in the Sun Belt as they host Troy at six Pm tonight. The Trojans are 0-and-4 overall and have scored just 62 points on the season. But the Warhawks will need to get their offense going too, after getting shutout at LSU two weeks ago.

Tulane is at Rutgers for an eleven A-M kickoff. The Green Wave are 1-and-3, while the Scarlet Knights are 3-and-1.

Southeastern Lousiaina begins Southland play tonight against Incarnate Word. The Lions are looking to break a two-game losing streak. Nicholls State seeks its first win of the year as they visit Central Arkansas. McNeese State returns from a bye week to host Arkansas Tech.

In the SWAC….Grambling State, who beat Jackson State last week, faces winless Prairie View in Dallas, and Southern visits Alcorn State in a game that can be seen on ESPN 3 at four P-M.

Tomorrow night…the Saints visit the Dallas Cowboys. New Orleans would like to force more turnovers, they have just one takeaway and that came in the season opener.

The Saints look to win on the road in Dallas on Sunday night. New Orleans has not won a regular season game away from Mercedes Benz Superdome since a win over Atlanta in the Georgia Dome last November. But NFL analyst Mike Detillier says on the flip side, the Black and Gold are 9-and-0 in Sunday night games, when Coach Sean Payton is on the sidelines…

The Saints beat the Cowboys in Big D last season 49-17. New Orleans had an NFL record 40 first downs in that game.

The 17th ranked LSU Tigers host New Mexico State tomorrow night in their final non-conference game of the year. LSU has won 48 straight against non-conference opponents in the regular season. That’s the longest streak in the nation.

ULM can improve to 2-and-0 in the Sun Belt when they host Troy on Saturday night at Malone Stadium. The last three times these two teams have played in Monroe, the Warhawks were victorious.

Louisiana Tech is at Auburn tomorrow. This is the 12th meeting between the two schools and the Bulldogs have yet to beat the War Eagles. They came close in 1948 as the game finished in a 13-13 tie.

Southeastern Louisiana begins defense of its Southland Conference championship as it visits Incarnate Word. Kick-off in San Antonio is set for six PM. The Lions have won their last ten game games against Southland opponents.

Nicholls State is still looking for win number one on the season. The Colonels are at Central Arkansas. McNeese State hosts Arkansas Tech in a non-conference match-up.

Southern and Grambling enter action tomorrow with 1-and-0 records in the SWAC. The Jags are at Alcorn State, while Grambling faces Prairie View in the State Fair Classic in Dallas.

Last year when the Saints played the Cowboys, New Orleans set an NFL record for first downs with 40 and a team record with 625 yards of total offense. The Saints won that game 49-17. NFL analyst Mike Detillier expects both teams to score a bunch of more points on Sunday night when they meet again in Dallas….

LSU is 23-and-1 under Coach Les Miles following a loss. The Tigers will make 24-and-1 on Saturday night when they host New Mexico State. the Aggies are 2-and-2 on the season and heavy underdogs in this game. But there quarterback Tyler Rogers has been getting better every week and wide receiver Teldrick Morgan has 31 catches on the season.

Louisiana Tech is at fifth ranked Auburn on Saturday. Neither team is happy with it how it performed in its last game. The Bulldogs were outscored 20-7 in the fourth quarter and lost to Northwestern State last Saturday. Auburn beat Kansas State in its last game, but only had 359 yards of total offense. That’s the fewest amount of yards Auburn has had in the 17 games that Gus Malzahn has been their head coach.

ULM faces Troy on Saturday night in a Sun Belt match-up. It’s the last game at home for the Warhawks until October 25th.

Southeastern Louisiana concludes a three-game road trip on Saturday as they face Incarnate Word in San Antonio. Also in the southland…Nicholls State seeks its first win of the year as its visits Central Arkansas. McNeese State hosts Arkansas Tech.

The Saints go after their second straight win on Sunday night when they visit the Dallas Cowboys. NFL Analyst Mike Detillier says for the Black and Gold to come away with a win, they have to slow down Cowboys running back DeMarco Murray and the Saints have to establish their running game…:

He says the Saints are 9-and-0 in Sunday night games, when Coach Sean Payton is on the sidelines. The game is scheduled to kick off at 7:30 pm at AT&T Stadium in Arlington Texas and will be on NBC.

In other Black and Gold news, Former New Orleans Sints running back Fred McAfee was named to the 2015 Mississippi Sports Hall of Fame Thursday. He formerly played at Mississippi College.

Your Louisiana College football games this weekend…LSU hosts New Mexico State and it looks like he plans to start quarterback Anthony Jennings again. Miles did say that QB Brandon Harris has earned more playing time.

ULM has a Sun Belt match-up with Troy on Saturday. The Warhawks are a 13-and-a-half point favorite in the game. Kickoff is 6pm tomorrow.

The Saints face the Cowboys on Sunday. Dallas is a team that quarterback Drew Brees has had a lot of success against. In five games against the Cowboys, Brees is 4-and-1 and he’s thrown 14 touchdown passes. In last year’s rout, Brees threw for 392 yards in a 49-17 victory.

We’ve yet to see that explosive Saints offense this season. Quarterback Drew Brees believes they can get there….

We’ll see the full black uniforms on Sunday night. That’s right New Orleans will wear black pants and black jerseys.

One other Saints note, longtime special teams standout Fred McAfee has been named a member of the 2015 induction class of the Mississippi Sports Hall of Fame.

Statistically, the Saints offense ranks in the top ten in the NFL in several important categories like total offense and points scored, but has not been as explosive as it has been in previous seasons.

LSU coach Les Miles isn’t ready to give up on sophomore quarterback Anthony Jennings, but it certainly sounds like Brandon Harris’ two-touchdown performance on Saturday will net the freshman some additional playing time moving forward. Miles praised Harris’ performance during his spot on the Southeastern Conference coaches Teleconference Wednesday morning.

ULM has the opportunity to improve to 2-and-0 in the Sun Belt on Saturday when they host Troy at Malone Stadium. The Trojans are off to an 0-and-4 start and lost 66 to nothing against Georgia last week. But Warhawks Coach Todd Berry says Troy has had some tough breaks this season, but it’s still a quality football team…..:
