It’s Gameday for the Ragin Cajuns football team tonight as they’ll face Texas State in a game that can be seen on ESPN Two at seven o’ clock in San Marcos, Texas. UL Lafayette beat the Bobcats 48-24 last season and both teams this year are 1-and-0 in league play.

After two straight games on the road, LSU begins a three-game homestand this Saturday against Kentucky. The 5-and-1 Wildcats are a much improved team over last season and Coach Les Miles says he’s impressed with Kentucky’s offense…

Miles hopes Quarterback Brandon Harris will get to play this Saturday, after not getting on the field in the win over Florida.

Bad news for former LSU Tiger Stevan Ridley. The Patriots running back is reportedly out for the season, because of a torn ACL. Ridley has 340 rushing yards this season and two touchdowns.

The Saints are at Detroit this Sunday. Lions running back Reggie Bush says he’ll play after missing last Sunday because of a sprained ankle. It will be the first time Bush faces the Saints, since he was traded by the Black and Gold in 2011. Detroit’s supestar receiver Calvin Johnson also didn’t play Sunday, because of a high ankle sprain. Johnson may have to miss two more games, before he can play.

In the High school football polls…St. Thomas More in Lafayette remains ranked number one in Four-A. But district rival Breaux and South Terrebonne have moved into the top ten at number nine and ten respectively.

Tonight in NBA action….The Pelicans host Houston in the Smoothie King Center. These two teams were involved in a trade in the offseason that sent big man Omer Asik to New Orleans.

The UL Lafayette football team gets some national TV exposure tonight as they visit Texas State in a game that will be televised by ESPN 2 at six P-M. The Ragin Cajuns easily defeated the Bobcats 48 to 24 last season, but ULL Coach Mark Hudspeth expects a tougher test tonight…

Tuesday is an unusual day to play a football game, but Hudspeth says his team proved they can handle the unique situation last year.

Louisiana Tech gets back in action Saturday. The Bulldogs are 2-and-0 and lead the West Division of Conference USA. They’ll host Texas-San Antonio with an 11AM kickoff. The Roadrunners are 2-and-4 overall.

The Tigers wild 30-27 victory over Florida was win number 100 at LSU for Coach Les Miles. “The Mad Hatter” joins Charles McClendon as the only two coaches in LSU history to win at least 100 games. Miles says one of his players gave him the game ball after the win and he’s glad it was the type of victory that exemplifies how his teams play…

LSU running back Leonard Fournette is the Louisiana Sports Writers Association’s College Football Offensive Player of the Week. Saturday against Florida, Fournette rushed for a career-best 140 yards and scored two touchdowns. Nicholls State’s Davin Bovie is the Defensive Player of the Week and Andy Wickman, from Northwestern State, is the Special Teams Player of the Week.

Freshman running back Leonard Fournette got the start for LSU on Saturday and didn’t disappoint in the Tigers 30-27 win over Florida. Fournette rushed for 140 yards and two touchdowns. Afterwards, Fournette said he’s feeling more comfortable…

Fournette will try to make it two wins in a row this Saturday against an improving Kentucky team.

The Saints were off yesterday and will now get ready to visit the Detroit Lions this weekend. Detroit defeated Minnesota 17-3 on Sunday. Former Saints running back Reggie Bush didn’t play for the Lions, but the former first-round pick told the Detroit Free Press that he’ll be ready to play against the Saints. No word if wide receiver Calvin Johnson will play, he missed yesterday’s win because of ankle injury.

Southeastern Louisiana has moved up one spot in the FCS Coaches poll to number eight. The Lions defeated Lamar 61 to 34 on Saturday. S-L-U had 651 total yards. Quarterback Bryan Bennett rushed for a season-high 125 yards and three touchdowns.

McNeese State fell six spots to number ten in the poll. The Cowboys were upset 38-22 by Sam Houston State. McNeese was never able to recover from an early 14-0 deficit.

Grambling State is still not ranked, even though they improved to 4-and-0 in the SWAC with a 28-21 win over Alcorn State. The Tigers are the lone undefeated team in SWAC play.

The LSU Tigers finally have their first SEC win of the season and it wasn’t easy. LSU and Florida went back-and-forth in a crazy fourth quarter on Saturday in Gainesville, but it was the Tigers who came out on top 30-27. Coach Les Miles says the victory shows what these Tigers can accomplish…

Cut 16 (18) “after that”

The big offensive star for the Tigers was freshman running back Leonard Fournette. He rushed for 140 yards and two touchdowns.

Saints tight end Jimmy Graham will likely miss the next two games due to the shoulder injury suffered against Tampa Bay on October 5th. Graham will reportedly miss between two to three weeks of action.

Yesterday in the NFC South, Atlanta fell to Chigaco 27-13, Baltimore crushed Tampa Bay 48-17, and Carolina and Cincinnati tied at 37.

Grambling State and Southeastern Louisiana are still undefeated in conference play. Grambling moved to 4-0 in the SWAC with a 28-21 win over Alcorn State. Tigers Quarterback Jonathan Williams threw for 222 yards and one touchdown. The junior from Tampa also rushed for 65 yards and two touchdowns.

Southeastern Louisiana moved to 3-0 in the Southland with a 61-34 win over Lamar. The Lions rushed for a school record 484 yards. Lions QB Bryan Bennett rushed for 125 yards and three touchdowns. McNeese State fell to 1-and-1 in the league as they lost to Sam Houston State 38-22. The Cowboys got behind 35-7 and they threw for only 89 yards.

Northwestern state is also 1-1 in the Southland as the Demons defeated Incarnate Word 49-12. Zach Adkins threw four touchdown passes in the 2nd quarter and Garrett Atzenweiler rushed for 146 yards.

And Nicholls State is still winless after a 42-20 loss to Stephen F Austin. That’s 13 straight loss, but the Colonels had a season-high 381 yards.

LSU hopes it can begin to turn its season around tonight in the Swamp as they take on the Florida Gators. The Tigers are 0-and-2 in the SEC. Last week Auburn beat the Bayou Bengals 41-7 as they scored 17 first quarter points. Coach Les Miles wants to reverese that trend today….

Florida comes into the game 3-and-1 overall, but have not looked good on offense. It’s the first matchup between these two teams since 1989 that both teams are not ranked in the Top 25. Kick-off is at 6:30 PM.

There’s another big game in Starkville today as third ranked Mississippi State hosts second ranked Auburn. Former Haughton Quarterback Dak Prescott can add to his Heisman Trophy candidate resume. Prescott has led the Bulldogs to 5-and-0 start.

ULM is a three touchdown underdog to Kentukcy today. The The Wildcats are 4-and-1. A big reason why is sophomore quarterback Patrick Towles, who has played particularly well at home this season. The Warhawks have been outscored 59-14 on the road this season.

Tulane is home tonight to face Connecticut at Yulman Stadium. Both teams are 1-and-4.

In the SWAC…Grambling hosts Alcorn State. Both teams are 3-and-0 in the league and in first place in their respective divisions. Southern is at Alabama A-and-M.

In the Southland…5th ranked McNeese State is at Sam Houston State. The Cowboys can take a big step towards its first conference championship since 2009 with a win today. Nicholls State hosts Stephen F Austin. The winless Colonels are averaging just 10 points a game. Northwestern State hosts Incarnate Word for homecoming tonight. Southeastern Lousiaina is at Lamar. The Lions are averaging 37 points a game.

The Saints are off tomorrow, but they’ll root for Chicago and Cincinnati. The Bengals host the Panthers, while the Bears visit Atlanta.

No word on who will start at quarterback for the Tigers against Florida tomorrow. It will either be Anthony Jennings or Brandon Harris. Harris did not perform well on the road last week, but Coach Les Miles is optimstic the former Parkway star will handle the environment better this time…

A low scoring affair is expected with LSU’s troubles at the quarterback position and the Gators offense is also struggling.

In high school football action tonight…the number one ranked team in Class Two-A. the Many Tigers host Pickering. In One-A, top ranked Mangham is at Delhi. And in Four-A, number one ranked St. Thomas More is in New Iberia tonight to face the Westgate Tigers.

ULM football will get an early wake up call tomorrow morning as the Warhawks visit Kentucky, with kick-off set for 11 AM. The Warhawks are coming off a two touchdown loss to Arkansas State, while the Wildcats are 4-and-1 overall and off their best start since 2008.

Grambling State has won three in a row, its longest winning streak since 2011. They host Alcorn State tomorrow afternoon. It’s a matchup of first place teams in the SWAC. Also Southern is at Alabama A-and-M.

In the Southland…Southeastern Louisiana can improve to 3-and-0 in league play as it visits Lamar tomorrow night. The Lions have won 12 straight conference games. McNeese State has won 3 in a row overall and they are at Sam Houston State. Northwestern State will play its first home game since August 28th when they take on Incarnate Word tomorrow night. And Nicholls State looks to snap a 12-game losing streak that dates back to last year when they face Stephen F Austin. The Lumberjacks have lost 12 straight road games.

LSU leaves for Florida today where they’ll face the Gators tomorrow night in Gainesville. The Tigers would like to get their running game going. The Tigers averaged less than four yards a carry in last week’s loss to Auburn.

It looks like the Saints running game will get a boost when they return to the field a week from Sunday to face the Detoit Lions. Running back Mark Ingram appeared on N-F-L AM today and said his plan to play next week. Ingram has been sidelined with a fractured bone in his hand. In two games this season, Ingram is averaging six yards a carry.

High School football last night…the top ranked team in Three-A, University High defeated sixth ranked Parkview Baptist 28-7. Also last night…Kinder easily beat Lake Arthur 55-14, Neville had no trouble defeating Franklin Parish 51-7, Parkway pounded Captain Shreve 49-14, and Byrd over Airline 31-13.

McNeese State and Southeastern Louisiana look to remain in the Top Ten in the Sports Network FCS poll with victories this Saturday. The fifth ranked Cowboys are at Sam Houston State, while the Lions visit Lamar. The Cardinals are 4-and-2 on the season.

Nicholls State seeks its first win of the season tomorrow when they visit Stephen F Austin. The Lumberjacks, who are 3-and-2, have scored 35 or more points in their last four games. Colonels interim head coach Steve Axman says Stephen F Austin presents problems for his struggling defense…

The LSU Tigers leave today for the Sunshine state where they’ll face Florida tomorrow night in Gainesville. On social media and radio call-in shows, Tigers fans have expressed their frustrations with the 0-and-2 record in SEC play, but Coach Les Miles says there’s been a lot of positive energy at practice and in meeting rooms…:

The top ranked team in 3a, the uhigh Cubs beat Parkview 28-7. LSU commitment Nick Brosette had 3 TD runs. Byrd beat Airline 28-13, Neville knocked off Franklin Parish 51-7 and Berwick beat Franklin 23-14.

In the Southland Conference…Northwestern State will play its first home game in 43 days when they host Incarnate Word on Saturday night in Turpin Stadium. The Demons are coming off a four-game road trip, where they went two and two. Coach Jay Thomas is encouraged with how his team played on the road…:

Miles says a starting quarterback will likely not be named until Saturday. Meanwhile, Florida has announced Jeff Driskel will start at Q-B for the Gators. Driskel has been struggling….in six games this year, he’s completed only 55-percent of his passes and he’s been intercepted six times. Florida’s other QB, Treon Harris, has been suspended as he’s accussed of sexual assault.

There’s some big Thursday night football games tonight. In Baton Rouge….the top ranked team in Three-A University High hosts crosstown rival Parkview Baptist. That game will be on Fox Sports New Orleans. In Shreveport, undefeated Byrd hosts its big rival, Airline at seven o’ clock. In Four-A…second ranked Neville is at Franklin Parish.

Fourth ranked McNeese State puts its three-game winning streak on the line this Saturday when they visit Sam Houston State. Cowboys Coach Matt Viator says the Bearkats are a good team, even though they have three losses on the season….

Grambling State introduced its men’s and women’s basketball coaches today. Nadine Domond is the women’s coach. She had a standout prep career in Connecticut and at the University of Iowa. Shawn Walker will lead the men’s team. He has previous head coaching experience at Elizabeth City State University.

ULM is at Kentucky on Saturday. The Warhawks go into this game with five starters out because of injuries. Coach Todd Berry says the injury list the last couple of seasons has been disheartening, but that’s part of the game…
