Another spirited effort by the LSU men’s basketball team last night, but it still resulted in another loss for Coach Matt McMahon’s team. The Tigers trailed by 15 points at halftime to Texas, and cut the lead down to three points, but no closer and lost to the Longhorns 88 to 85. Max Mackinnon had 27 points in a losing effort. The Tigers are now 2-11 in the SEC.

In college baseball last night, the Ragin Cajuns blanked Rice three to nothing as Sawyer Pruitt pitched four shutout innings for his first win. Northwestern State outslugged ULM 13 to 10. The Demons scored six runs in the eighth inning to improve to 4-and-0 on the season.

Also…20th ranked Southern Miss beat Southeastern Louisiana three to one, South Alabama downed Nicholls seven to five, Wiley College over Grambling 11 to 10 and top ranked UCLA beat Tulane 13 to 5.

After missing last season with a back injury, LSU right-handed pitcher Gavin Guidry has looked great in his two relief appearances. The former Barbe standout has allowed just one hit in four and a third innings and has struck out ten. Guidry admits he had doubts about whether he would pitch again after having back surgery last April.

In other action today…Louisiana Tech looks to improve to 5-and-0 as the Bulldogs host the McNeese Cowboys. Southern and UNO meet in Baton Rouge.

In college hoops…ULM hosts Troy. The Trojans are 9-5 in the Sun Belt, while the Warhawks are 1- 13. Louisiana Tech hosts Jacksonville State. Jax State beat the Bulldogs twice last season. Tip off is at 6:30/

It is an understatement to say LSU right fielder Jake Brown is swinging the bat well. His bat is red hot as he hit two more home runs in Monday night’s in ten to seven win over Kent State.  Brown has hit four home runs over the last two games. Gavin Guidry looked good again and earned the save as he threw 2.1 innings of scoreless baseball. Guidry, who missed last season with a back injury, says he is ready to pitch whenever Coach Jay Johnson calls on him…

LSU concludes its five game homestand by hosting Nicholls at 1 PM tomorrow.

The Colonels are in action tonight as they host South Alabama. Southeastern Louisiana takes on 20th ranked Southern Miss in Hammond. The Cajuns are in Houston to take on Rice and Tulane visits top ranked UCLA.

 

Starting this fall, all of LSU’s athletics uniforms will don a patch containing the logo of Woodside Energy. The Australian-based energy company was given the option to have its logo only on football uniforms, but executive vice president Daniel Kalms says they decided to support all 21 sports on LSU’s campus.

While Woodside Energy’s logo is red, the logo patch will match LSU’s traditional purple and gold.

Tonight the LSU men’s basketball team faces Texas at 8 PM. Senior shooting guard Max Mackinnon is expected to return after missing last Saturday’s loss to Tennessee with a knee injury.

Last night, the Ragin Cajuns gave up 49 points in the second half and lost to Old Dominion 83 to 72. McNeese beat Northwestern State 75 to 64 as Tyshawn Archie had 24 points. Nicholls lost to Houston Christian by four.

Global energy company Woodside Energy, which is building a massive 17 billion dollar L-N-G plant in Calcasieu Parish has signed an agreement with LSU to have its logo on all of the Tiger uniforms. Woodside Energy’s logo is red, but Executive vice president Daniel Kalms says the logo patch will match the LSU’s traditional purple and gold colors…

Woodside Energy has been operating in Louisiana for nearly two decades.

Legendary high school football coach Jerry Arledge died this past weekend at the age of 83. Arledge served as West Monroe’s defensive coordinator from 1992 to 2012 and helped the Rebels’ win eight state championships. KNOE-TV Sports Director Aaron Dietrich says his defenses were elite.

Big night for a couple of baseball players from southwest Louisiana as LSU improved to 4-0 last night with a ten-to-seven win over Kent State. Sulphur’s Jake Brown followed up his two-home run performance on Sunday with two more home runs last night. And former Barbe star Gavin Guidry recorded a seven-out save. Mason Braun and Zach Yorke also homered for the Tigers.

In college basketball last night…McNeese outscored Northwestern State 75 to 64. Nicholls came up a little short and lost to Houston Christian 72 to 68. East Texas A-and-M handled Southeastern Louisiana 70 to 53.

Texas Southern topped Southern 74 to 73 and Grambling fell to Prairie View 68 to 63.

The LSU men’s basketball team is at Texas tonight. The Tigers are expected to have Max Mackinnon back after missing the Tennessee loss with a knee injury. Tip off tonight is at 8.

This morning is the funeral for former Northeast Louisiana University football coach Pat Collins, who led the Indians to a Division One-Double-A national championship in 1987. He was 84 years old.

Northeast Louisiana has also lost another coaching legend in Jerry Arledge. He was West Monroe’s defensive coordinator when he and the late Don Shows won eight state championships for the Rebels. KNOE-TV sports director Aaron Dietrich…

Arledge was 83 years old.

And the U-L at Lafayette is mourning the death of one of its greatest college basketball players. Dwight “Bo” Lamar has passed away at the age of 74. He was a cornerstone in then-Southwestern Louisiana’s rise from an NAIA program to a prominent school at the Division One level. Lamar scored nearly 35-hundred points from 1969 to 1973.

The sixth-ranked LSU women’s basketball team once again has to bounce back from a loss to 3rd-ranked South Carolina, as the Gamecocks defeated the Lady Tigers for an 18th consecutive time on Saturday night, 79-72. LSU coach Kim Mulkey says her team’s nine missed free throws were the story of the game…

LSU is at 14th ranked Ole Miss on Thursday night.

The LSU men’s basketball team fell to 2-10 in the SEC with a loss to Tennessee last Saturday. The Tigers will play the rest of the season without starting point guard DJ Thomas, who needs season ending surgery on his left foot. LSU is at Texas tomorrow night.

Big game from Jake Brown as he drove in a career-high six runs as he hit two home runs, including a grand slam. The top-ranked LSU baseball team opened the 2026 season with a three-game sweep of Milwaukee. After a sluggish win on Saturday, the Tigers dominated on Sunday, winning 21-7. LSU’s pitchers set a school-record with 49 strikeouts in a series.

Louisiana Tech scored 39 runs in a four-game sweep over H-C-U. ULM split a four game series against Central Arkansas. The Ragin Cajuns dropped their first two games of the season to Missouri State before winning nine to seven yesterday. Northwestern State starts its season by sweeping Texas-Arlington.

The LSU women’s basketball team returns to the practice court today after a tough 79 to 72 loss to South Carolina on Saturday night. LSU missed way too many shots down the stretch and missed nine free throws for the game. Coach Kim Mulkey says they didn’t do the little things well enough…

That’s now 18 straight losses to South Carolina. LSU will look to rebound on Thursday night when it visits 14th-ranked Ole Miss, which lost by 17 to Kentucky on Sunday.

The Lady Techsters won their 12th straight on Saturday and will be at Jacksonville State on Thursday. The McNeese women’s basketball team’s win streak is up to 15 after beating UTRGV on Saturday.

The McNeese men are at Northwestern State tonight, Nicholls visits H-C-U and the Cajuns are at Old Dominion.

The top ranked LSU Tigers trailed by three runs yesterday, but scored 13 unanswered runs on their way to beating Milwaukee 15 to 5 in eight innings in the season opener. LSU scored six runs in the seventh inning, highlighted by catcher Cade Arrambide’s three-run blast. Gavin Guidry, who missed the 2025 season with a back injury, was the winning pitcher as he threw the final two innings and struck out five of the seven hitters he faced. A huge basketball game takes place tonight at the P-MAC as sixth-ranked LSU hosts third-ranked South Carolina. The Lady Tigers have lost 17 straight games to the Gamecocks and will need a good game from senior guard Flau’jae Johnson. Louisiana Tech men’s basketball tries to follow up its double overtime win on Thursday night over Missouri State by beating F-I-U this afternoon. McNeese is at Northwestern State. The McNeese women, who have won 14 in a row, are at East Texas A-and-M.

President Trump has posthumously pardoned LSU legend Billy Cannon for his involvement in a counterfeiting scheme that sent him to prison for two-and-half years. Afterwards, he returned to dentistry and in 1995 was hired as a dentist at the Louisiana State Penitentiary where he worked on inmates’ teeth and helped offenders reform. His daughter, Bunnie Cannon says his counterfeiting conviction does not define her father…

Pat Collins, who led Northeast Louisiana to the 1987 Division One-Double-A National championship has passed away at the age of 84. The Shreveport native was 57-35 in eight seasons at the helm at N-L-U. He also led the school to two Southland Conference titles and produced 17 All-Americans. Collins was inducted in the Louisiana Sports Hall of Fame in 2015.

 

Southwest Louisiana businessman Lee Mallett is the new chairman of the LSU Board of Supervisors, Louisiana Illuminator reporter Piper Hutchinson says Mallett is friends with former LSU basketball coach Will Wade and with the Tigers basketball program having another bad season, she says Mallett’s appointment raises speculation Wade could return to LSU…

The sixth ranked LSU women’s basketball team will take on third ranked South Carolina tomorrow night. The Lady Tigers rank number one in scoring offense. The Gamecocks are second in the nation in field goal percentage defense, Reed Darcey of The Advocate says buckets could be hard to come by…

It is finally opening day for the 2026 LSU baseball team, with the Tigers beginning their national title defense against Milwaukee at 2 PM today. Sophomore right-hander Casan Evans was named the opening-day starter, and coach Jay Johnson says Evans has been ready to step into a starting role since last season ended.

Milwaukee was 24-35 last season and 16-13 in the Horizon League.

In college basketball last night…Louisiana Tech had to battle to get its second road win of the season, defeating Missouri State 79-78 in double overtime. Neither team shot the ball well, but Tech’s Avery Thomas hit four 3-pointers and finished with 19 points.

The Ragin Cajuns four-game winning streak ended last night with a four-point loss to Coastal Carolina, 69 to 65.

The Lady Techsters won their 11thin a row last night, an easy 71-49 win over F-I-U. McNeese improved to 15-1 in the Southland with a hard-fought win over Northwestern State 64-59. Nicholls beat Houston Christian 59 to 43.

Tomorrow night, it’s the big matchup between sixth-ranked LSU and 3rd ranked South Carolina. Lady Tigers junior guard MiLaysia Fulwiley (my-LAY-zhuh full-WHY-lee) plays her former team for the first time since transferring last April. The Columbia, South Carolina native will be emotional, but Coach Kim Mulkey isn’t concerned about it affecting her play.

The number-two LSU baseball team will open its national title defense at 2 p.m. tomorrow against Milwaukee. Kendall Rodgers of D1Baseball.com says sophomore centerfielder Derek Curiel has positioned himself to have an even better second season at the plate after putting on 20 pounds of muscle in the offseason.

Kyrstian Lewis scored 32 points last night but ULM still lost to Arkansas State 103 to 70. The Warhawks are 4-22 overall, 1-and-12 in the Sun Belt and they will be at Texas State on Saturday.
