The Port of New Orleans has rebounded since the pandemic with nearly one point two million cruise passenger movements last year. Spokesperson Kimberly Curth says cruises are back and better than ever.

Mandeville police are searching for a teenager wanted in connection with the shooting of a boy during the Krewe of Eve Parade there on Friday. Authorities say 17 year old Tyryn Bailey is wanted on several charges including Attempted Second Degree Murder. We’re told the shooting victim’s injuries were not life-threatening.

Due to the shortage of truck drivers, the Louisiana Motor Transport Association is encouraging more women to join the workforce with the initiative “Women in Motion.” Executive Director of LMTA Renee Amar says while women make up 50 percent of the workforce…

And while women are often blamed for being poor drivers, Amar says the opposite is true.

Amar says however there are legitimate safety concerns for female drivers. She says the U-S Department of Transportation is trying to address dedicated areas for truck parking. Amar says because truckers are limited by the number of hours, looking for a safe area to pull off the road is problematic.

Depending on what is being hauled and how far it is driven, Amar says truck drivers can make annually anywhere from $40,0000 to $120,000.

Port NOLA set a passenger record in March 2023 for oceangoing and river cruises, topping pre-pandemic levels with more than 155 passenger movements and 39 cruise vessel calls.

Curth says 73 percent of cruise guests travel from out of state and spend one to two days in the Crescent City before or after their cruise. She says the cruise market is a vital economic cruise engine that generates more than 125 million each year.

Carnival Cruise Line homeports two year-round vessels from Port NOLA. Disney Cruise Line also returned to the Big Easy. Royal Caribbean returns with a new vessel in November 2024.

Even though the King’s role in the United Kingdom’s society is more ceremonial in modern times versus political, Veldman says there are mechanisms in place to fill his role as he undergoes treatment.

As for the line of succession upon King Charle’s death, Prince William will become King followed by his eldest son George.

Veldman says she does admire that the King has opted to go public with his health concerns and notes that it is harder however to keep such information private upon the advent of social media.

The U-S Senate has proposed a 118-billion dollar immigration bill that supporters say will overhaul immigration system by imposing tougher asylum and border laws. But House Speaker Mike Johnson from Bossier Parish says the legislation would incentivize more illegal immigration.

A man and woman were fatally shot in the front yard of their home in Houma on Friday.  Lieutenant Blake Tabor with the Terrebonne Parish Sheriff’s Office says The victims were returning home from the Krewe of Hercules parade when gunfire erupted. Tabor says this was a senseless act of violence.

Minden police are asking for the public’s help in finding a man suspected of shooting two people last Wednesday. An arrest warrant has been issued  for 28-year-old, Jaryon Stephens on attempted second degree murder charges after one man found Wednesday in the 600 block of Martin Luther King Drive was shot multiple times. The second victim shot in his leg wasn’t  found until Friday. If you have any information about the incident or the whereabouts of Stephens, call Minden PD 318-377-1212.

He says they will bring justice to those affected by this act of violence.

The LSU men’s basketball team defeated Arkansas yesterday 95 to 74 and a huge factor in their win was the play of Point Guards Jalen Cook and Trae Hannibal. LSU Head Coach Matt McMahon gave Hannibal his first start of the season and he says that his team is still learning the best combinations of players on the court.

The LSU Lady Tigers dominated the Florida Gators yesterday 106 to 66. 106 points is now LSU’s school record for most points scored in an SEC game. Six players scored in double figures on Sunday and the Tigers were led by Hailey Van Lith’s 21 points and Aneesah Morrow’s 20 rebounds.

The New Orleans Pelicans will look to extend their two game win streak and 2 game Southwest Division lead against the Toronto Raptors tonight at 7pm. The Pelicans are playing in the Smoothie King Center and are currently 11 and a half point favorites against the Raptors.

The Ragin Cajuns men’s basketball team won their seventh straight game on Saturday against the South Alabama Jaguars 80 to 60. UL-Lafayette had three players record a double-double and Ragin Cajuns Head Coach Bob Marlin says that his team is now firing on all cylinders.

GOHSEP has implemented a change to help parishes and local governments receive an extra ten percent of eligible reimbursement. Going forward they will give will 90-percent versus 80-percent. Director Jacques Thibodeaux all the legal, regulatory, and advisory requirements set by FEMA are still met.
