Answered prayers in Webster Parish as a girl who disappeared from her home was found safe. Crews spent all day searching for ten-year-old Peyton Saintignan, and an Arkansas company flying a drone was able to find her asleep in a wooded area. Webster Parish Sheriff Jason Parker says this is not the first time Peyton disappeared from her home.

Hundreds of volunteers joined several law enforcement agencies in searching for her.

Entergy Louisiana says it’s restored power to nearly all customers whose power was knocked out by Hurricane Francine in just three days. The company says it credits the fast restoration time to ongoing training and enhancements made to its incident response program. As of late this afternoon, only a small percentage of customers along certain water routes and in the hardest-hit areas of Terrebonne Parish were still in the dark.

The little girl who disappeared from her home in Webster Parish has been found safe. An Arkansas company flying a drone spotted 10-year-old Peyton Saintingnan sleeping in a wooded area. Webster Parish Sheriff Jason Parker says she had been seen on a trail cam earlier in the day.  And Parker says before she was found, Peyton heard the searchers.

Despite the recent Me-Too movement, sexual harassment continues to be very prevalent. According to the #MeToo 2024 report by Tulane University’s Newcome Institute, a survey of more than 33-hundred adults found that 82-percent of women and 42-percent of men experience some form of sexual harassment or assault in their lifetime. Lead researcher Anita Raj says sexual harassment in the workplace remains a concern.

The Saints destroyed the Cowboys in Arlington, 44-19 yesterday. The Saints gained 190 yards on the ground –115 of them by Alvin Kamara. Head Coach Dennis Allen says that’s taking a load off quarterback Derek Carr.

Francine’s damage estimates are coming in. Catastrophe risk modeler, Core Logic estimates the cost is one point five billion dollars. In a news conference Friday, Governor Jeff Landry said the damage should be no excuse for insurance companies to rase their rates even further.

Johnson says there are hearings this month for a Task Force on the previous attempt. Reports will be coming out next week.  Johnson expressed deep concern over the growing threats against the former president and emphasized the need for heightened security measures.

U-S House Speaker Mike Johnson and his wife were on their way to Donald Trump’s home when the Secret Service stopped a 58-year-old man from carrying out what authorities are calling an assassination attempt on the former president. Johnson was briefed with the President within 90-minutes of the event by Acting Director of the Secret Service Ron Rowe.  Rowe says agents saw the gun barrel between the bushes and engaged.

Sheriff Parker says the young girl has a history of sleepwalking.

Just like last week, the Saints were firing on all cylinders yesterday, as they destroyed the Cowboys in Arlington, 44-19. Alvin Kamara scored four touchdowns, including a 57-yard catch and run in the second quarter. Kamara says offensive coordinator Klint Kubiak made it easy.

Much smaller losses than the fourteen-billion-dollar losses due to Hurricane Ida which impacted a similar area. The loss estimate for Francine does not include inland flooding caused by rain or losses to the National Flood Insurance Program.

The Louisiana Department of Education says it has received a 70-million dollar grant to accelerate student reading. Deputy Superintendent of Education Doctor Jennna Chiasson says the funds are from the U-S Department of Education…

Chaisson says the funding will go to schools that have high teacher turnover, a high percentage of new teachers, high schools with low graduation rates and schools that have a high number of third graders at risk of retention.

It’s suicide prevention month. Louisiana State Suicide Prevention Coordinator, Robyn Thomas, urges Louisianans to learn how the 9-8-8 hotline can help individuals struggling with mental health issues.

A new report by the Public Affairs Research Council of Louisiana shows that the number of students receiving college tuition money through the state’s TOPS program is down for the third year in a row. PAR President Steven Procopio says one of the biggest reasons is that the state is losing population. And as a result, the state is paying out less for the program.

Under the program, students who achieve at least a 2.5 GPA and an ACT score of 20 receive their tuition to any public college or university in Louisiana paid for.

Deputy Superintendent of Education Dr. Jenna Chiasson says the state plans to use this funding to enhance teacher training, provide access to evidence-based reading programs, and increase family engagement in student learning.

Louisiana has received a 70-million dollar grant that the state department of education says will help more students become strong readers. Deputy Superintendent of Education Jenna Chaisson says they will target the funds to support literacy efforts for students, teachers and schools most in need…

Schools and school systems will have to apply for the grant money.

The number of students on the TOPS scholarship program has dropped for a third consecutive year. That’s according to a report from the Public Affairs Research Council. PAR President Steven Procopio says the drop coincides with a decline in the state’s population and fewer high school graduates eligible for the scholarship…

State Police sent out a missing child advisory after the girl did not return home after going for a walk Sunday morning. Sheriff Jason Parker says thermal imaging-equipped drones helped find the child, who is fine, but was hungry.
