Ochsner Health System officials announced today that they would be among the 120 sites around the world doing clinical trials for a COVID-19 vaccine. This one is by pharmaceutical giant, Pfizer. Dr. Julia Garcia-Diaz, Ochsner’s director of clinical infectious disease research, said she expects to enroll up to 300 participants.

After three straight days of declines hospitalizations for COVID-19 have increased today, along with ventilator use. New case counts continue to come in below last week’s average of 2,000 though at 1,800 new COVID cases reported. Its now been clear over two weeks since the mask order was put into place, and it appears to have cut new cases by several hundred a day.

The state reports over 1,800 new COVID-19 cases today, marking the fourth consecutive day with new cases below 2000. The percentage of today’s new tests with positive cases is just over 7%. Fatalities increase by 24.

Nearly 200 new state laws take effect tomorrow. These are measures approved during the regular session. One new law greatly expands the state’s medical-marijuana program, allowing for any doctor in good standing with the state to recommend the treatment for a patient dealing with a debilitating condition…

Two Monroe teenagers have been arrested after State Police conducted a traffic stop on a vehicle and found a dead body in the trunk. 23-year-old Michael Robinson Junior of Monroe has been identified as the deceased individual. The driver of the vehicle, 18-year-old Michael Mitchell Junior of Monroe was arrested and investigators say 19-year-old Cameron Powe was also involved. Both have been charged with second-degree murder.
