The Louisiana Workforce Commission says its website is down and the state agency hopes the site will be operational by noon Wednesday. L-W-C Secretary Ava Dejoe says the site had to be taken down so that the I-T staff can program the site for new federal stimulus payments as part of the President’s American Rescue Plan.

Louisiana will receive $2.6 billion for schools from the latest COVID relief bill.  A large portion of the funding is to be dedicated to recovery learning so students can stay on grade level. State Education Superintendent Cade Brumley is asking school systems to reimagine summer school as more of a summer camp experience.

Parts of Louisiana could be in for a bumpy ride Wednesday. The storm prediction center has northwest and central parts of the state under an enhanced risk of severe weather which means a greater concentration of organized severe thunderstorms.  The northeast corner of the state is under a moderate risk of widespread severe weather with several tornadoes and/or numerous severe thunderstorms, some of which may be intense in the forecast Wednesday.

The Biden COVID recovery bill will send 2.6 billion dollars in funding to Louisiana public schools. State Education Superintendent Cade Brumley says a portion of that funding will go towards catching up students who fell behind during the pandemic and rebuild infrastructure for future educational growth.

Multiple, unsuccessful searches of the River have been conducted over the years but during last month’s winter storms a fisherman found the vehicle.

Attorney General Jeff Landry defends his office’s handling of sexual harassment misogyny complaints against former top aide Pat Magee.

Magee, who had previously been suspended for inappropriate conduct, resigned last week after receiving another complaint. Landry wrote a letter to his staff saying that behavior won’t be tolerated.

Magee was suspended for about a month related to allegations that he made disparaging comments about women working for him and that he assigned cases based on gender. A third-party investigation concluded his comments were “joking in nature”. He returned to the office earlier this year and his resignation was the result of a second, similar complaint that had been filed against him.

Landry says his office takes every complaint seriously and he has an open-door policy when it comes to employees.

Landry also defended his lawsuit against an Advocate reporter who filed a public information request to get access to the full complaint against Magee…

The Louisiana Office of Motor Vehicles is warning Louisianans against falling for “imposter” OMV sites they’ve seen pop up in large numbers recently. OMV spokesperson Matt Boudreaux says some privately-owned companies are paying to host websites that offer renewal services. The problem is they charge extra fees, and even worse…

New Orleans Representative Mandie Landry has filed a bill for the upcoming session that would decriminalize prostitution. Landry says many victims of human trafficking are afraid to tell authorities because they fear they’ll get arrested, and she says decriminalizing prostitution would also lead to safer sex practices among sex workers and their customers…

The Office of Motor Vehicles is warning Louisianans against falling for “imposter” OMV sites they’ve seen popping up in larger numbers recently. Wednesday the Board of Trustees at Oregon State University meets to review LSU’s Husch Blackwell report because their current school president, F. King Alexander served at LSU during the time the report investigated Title IX issues. The state Department of Corrections has asked the Edwards administration for a 21-million dollar increase in state funding to help pay for a 10-percent increase in pay for entry-level correctional officers. D-O-C says they have over 400 unfilled guard positions, a vacancy rate of more than 36-percent. The budget will be considered in the upcoming regular session.

Visitation guidelines have been relaxed allowing for indoor visitation at nursing homes and adult residential care facilities. AARP Louisiana Associate Director of Advocacy Andrew Muhl says this is a big win for residents and their families, some of them have been suffering from the lack of personal contact….
