Attorney General Jeff Landry has filed another suit against the Biden Administration, concerning vaccine mandates. Now he’s challenging the legality of the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services, or CMS, mandating all employees be vaccinated at facilities that receive CMS funding.

The mandate requires full-time and part-time employees, along with volunteers and contract employees at healthcare facilities that receive CMS funding otherwise that funding could be withheld.

Facility and students at LSU campuses are no longer required to wear face masks indoors. LSU President William Tate issued the notice this morning that they are lifting the mandate based on the recommendation of the university’s Health and Medical Advisory Committee due to declining case numbers. The Governor ended the statewide mask mandate in October.

COVID hospitalizations in Louisiana have increased to 209, they fell below 200 on Monday after a steady decline the last few weeks.

When lawmakers approved legislation last year changing how the courts would handle car accident lawsuits, supporters said it would lead to lower insurance rates. But Insurance Commissioner Jim Donelon said during a task force meeting on Affordable Automobile Insurance that rates are actually going up two percent. A deer that entered Our Lady of the Lake Hospital Monday afternoon in Baton Rouge has been euthanized. Wildlife officials say drivers saw the deer in the median near the hospital with blood coming from its nose and believe it was hit by a car before it stumbled into the building and made its way up the elevator. State Veterinarian Jim LaCour says the deer suffered severe internal injuries from being hit and would not recover and so it was euthanized.

In 2020, state lawmakers approved a tort reform bill that supporters said would lower auto insurance rates in Louisiana, which are the highest in the nation. But Insurance Commissioner Jim Donelon says auto insurance premiums have gone up two percent this year. Insure-dot-com says 41 states have seen rates decrease.

An Arizona-based business has filed a lawsuit in a federal court in New Orleans claiming the state’s decentralized tax collection system is unconstitutional. Pelican Institute for Public Policy CEO Daniel Erspamer says the lawsuit was filed two days after voters rejected a constitutional amendment that would have created a central collector that would disburse sales tax revenues to state and local governments…

Erspamer says Louisiana’s tax collection system is only one of two in the nation that is considered overly complex and possibly likely federally unconstitutional.

Instead of having one tax collection commission, there are more than 50 such entities in the Bayou State.

Erspamer says the goal is to have the courts decide whether Louisiana is in compliance with the Supreme Court’s Wayfair decision to streamline tax collection in U.S. states.

To be vaccinated, Deason says all children must present a signed parental consent form and they are also taking another step to confirm parental or guardian permission.

After each injection students are observed by nurses for 15 minutes to see if they have any adverse reaction and for those students who have epi-pens they are observed for 30 minutes as a precaution.

Understandably, Deason says many of the children are apprehensive about getting a shot and so they try to ease their fears and even ask if they’ve ever been pinched by their sibling.

They will visit schools in three weeks to follow up with a second dose of the Pfizer vaccine and also offer flu shots on second visits. Parental consent will be required once again.

Brent McDougall, Senior Analyst with the Louisiana Legislative Auditor says when you look at overall unemployment payments during the height of the pandemic, the overpayments are only a small percentage, and he acknowledges it was a very difficult time for the agency.

The Louisiana Department of Wildlife and Fisheries is investigating to see if the virus that causes COVID-19 in humans is also in whitetail deer.

A new report from Bank-rate-dot-com finds Louisiana ranks as the second-worst state for drivers. Bankrate analyst Sarah Foster says a main reason for the high ranking is that Louisiana is expensive for drivers, the state’s average car insurance rates are the highest in the country at 27-hundred dollars…

Foster says in addition to the high cost for drivers, Louisiana has a high fatality rate.

Deer season is upon us, and Louisiana is beginning to test whitetail deer for the presence of COVID-19 after the same animals tested positive for the virus in Iowa. LDWF Deer Program Manager Jonathan Bordelon says it’s not known if the deer can transmit the virus to humans, and even if a deer is infected, they don’t appear to show any signs of it…:

It’s no surprise that deer may be able to get the virus, as it started in animals before moving to humans. Bordelon says, if the thought of your deer having the virus troubles you, were gloves and a mask while field dressing it and handling the meat.

Speaking of deer, folks at Our Lady of the lake hospital in Baton Rouge were shocked when a young deer managed to wander inside the building at around 2 this afternoon. Staff subdued the creature and called Wildlife & Fisheries, who came and “tranq’ed” it and took it to be safely euthanized.
