The decision to choose residency has arrived for LSU Health graduates and many plans to remain in the state. Brooke Thorington has more from the Interim Dean of LSU Health New Orleans School of Medicine.

 The Tangipahoa Parish Sheriff’s Office is asking for help to locate 59-year-old, Kevin Moore a missing resident of Hammond. Moore was last seen by family members on March 18 while leaving to go to work. He did not show up for work and no one has been able to contact him. Moore drives a white 2019 Chevrolet Spark. Anyone with information should contact Tangipahoa Parish Sheriff’s Office.

Louisiana-based Ochsner Health – New Orleans is one of the first hospital systems in the nation to fully integrate standardizing genomic testing for cancer drugs which lowers the risk of adverse side effects.  Pharmacogenomics testing guides physicians on how patients metabolize certain drugs and warns of possible side effects so they may adjust dosage in a way that provides personalized treatments. Ochsner Health System Director of Clinical Pharmacy Services, Catherine Oliver says the process is instrumental in saving lives.

Secretary of  Louisiana’s Department of Environmental Quality, Chuck Brown will step down from his post on March 31^st. Brown has led LDEQ since 2016 as part of the Edwards administration. As Secretary, managed the state’s environment while working with federal authorities and oversaw LDEQ’s response to the 2016 flood. LDEQ Assistant Secretary Roger Gingles has been appointed Interim Secretary.

A state lawmaker is proposing a pay raise for legislators that would nearly quadruple their annual salaries. Gretna Representative Joe Marino’s measure would give legislators a new base salary of 60-thousand dollars. There current annual salary is 16,800. The increases would take effect new year, when there’s a new legislative body.

Match Day figures from LSU Health New Orleans indicate 80 percent of their graduating students who are staying in Louisiana will do their residency at either New Orleans, Baton Rouge, Lafayette, Lake Charles and Bogalusa. Ochsner Health – New Orleans says its one of the first hospitals in the nation to standardize genomic testing for cancer drugs to better treat patients. Ochsner Director of Clinical Pharmacy Services, Catherine Oliver says genomic testing helps to identify a person’s DNA and how they may respond to medication.

LSU Health New Orleans says 80-percent of its medical grads are staying in the state to enter LSU Health residency programs. Interim Dean of LSU Health New Orleans School of Medicine, Richard Dicarlo, says the percentage of their grads going into primary care is 55-percent and more are also entering the field of psychiatry

Interim executive director Greg Upton says many of Louisiana’s exports create carbon emissions and the state’s geology allows for the creation of a carbon sequestration hub, Upton says such facilities provide unrealized opportunities for the state.

Gulf Coast Sequestrian is looking to build the carbon capture and sequestrian hub and is awaiting on federal permits.

LSU’s Center for Energy Studies says a planned carbon capture hub in Calcasieu Parish that would store carbon dioxide emissions could decrease climate change and also support jobs at the same time. Greg Upton, Interim Director for the center says they have identified more than 50,000 jobs within a hundred miles of the planned hub.

The author of House Bill 103, Hammond Representative Nicholas Muscarello says he has received positive feedback and believes this will move students in the right direction.

Baton Rouge Police say 45-year-old Derrick Perkins will face more charges for his connection with disposing of the body of Georgia business executive Nathan Millard – found wrapped in a rug in North Baton Rouge on March 6^th. BRPD Sgt L’Jean McKneely says investigators have learned more about Perkins’s involvement.

Neuty the Nutria can stay with his adoptive human family in Jefferson Parish. Wildlife & Fisheries agents wanted to take him away, because it IS illegal to keep them in our state. Baton Rouge Police say the man wanted for questioning in the February disappearance and death of Georgia businessman Nathan Millard drove around in a stolen car for several days with the man’s remains in the trunk, before dumping the body and burning the car. 45-year-old Derrick Perkins is a known drug dealer, and BRPS Sgt. L’Jean McKneely says he was the last person to see Millard alive…:

Baton Rouge Police say additional charges have been filed against a man taken in for questioning in the mysterious death of Georgia businessman Nathan Millard last month. Millard’s body was found dumped in a remote area over a week after his disappearance. 45-year-old Derrick Perkins has now been charged with Criminal Damage to Property, for burning the car he allegedly drove for days with Millard’s remains in the trunk, and form Failure to Seek Assistance in Millard’s death. BRPD Sgt. L’Jean McKneely says they think Millard may have sought a wild time and got more than he bargained for…:

Millard’s death was not the result of violence. Police believe he overdosed, but are awaiting a blood toxicology report.

The State Fire Marshal’s Office says a fatal Saturday house fire in Pineville was likely the result of cigarette smoking near combustible materials. Several people escaped the house as the fire grew, but two people – a 54-year-old man and 16-year-old girl – were killed.

DOTD warns drivers in the Lafayette area that I-49 Northbound will be reduced to one lane this Thursday from 9 am until at least 3pm. Then lane closure is for repairs to the I-10 overpass, from where a big rig slammed into it in January. Again, that’s this Thursday morning in Lafayette.

A toxicology report on what killed Millard is pending, but an overdose is suspected.

A new law requires Louisiana authorities to direct all reports of suspected child trafficking to the Department of Children and Family Services. Its director, Terri Ricks, says the DCFS-mandated reporting hotline has handled 78 juvenile trafficking calls this year, the large majority of them involving sex trafficking.
