LSU forward Angel Reese is receiving criticism after taunting Iowa star player Caitlin Clark in the final moments of the National Championship game Sunday. Footage of Reese waving her hand in Clark’s face has gone viral and during the post-game press conference, the Baltimore native defended her actions.

Lafourche Parish Sergeant Nicholas Pepper was killed after a fleeing suspect rammed into his police unit during a pursuit Sunday morning. State Police Trooper Thomas Gossen says Houma officers attempted to stop the vehicle for a traffic violation, but the suspect fled, and the pursuit entered into Lafourche Parish

The suspect remains in the hospital with moderate injuries and the investigation is ongoing.

Among the bills filed for the legislative session, which begins a week from today, would add the exceptions of rape and incest to the state’s abortion ban.  New Orleans Representative Delisha Boyd says girls as young as nine could be forced to carry a child.

Boyd’s own mother gave birth to her when she was fifteen years old.

The Louisiana Right to Life says the circumstances of a child’s conception has no bearing on his or her human dignity and do not impair his or her right to life.

LSU forward Angel Reese is making headlines not for her playing but for taunting Iowa star player Caitlin Clark in the final moments of the game. Lafourche Parish Sheriff’s Sergeant Nick Pepper was killed in a fatal crash Sunday after a suspect rammed Pepper’s vehicle. Sheriff Craig Webre extended sympathy to Pepper’s family and praised his service with the department where Pepper’s wife Christie also works as an investigator. State police are overseeing the investigation.

Lower Energy Costs Act – authored by Congressman Steve Scalise passed the U.S. House on Thursday, and he’s hopeful it will receive support from the Senate. Scalise’s House Resolution 1 passed by a narrow 225-204 margin. Scalise says the bill is intended to help consumers financially, but he’s already spoken with some Democrats in the Senate who are interested in debating the measure.

Scalise says 60 senators (about 11 of them Democrats) will have to vote to bring the bill up for debate.

Lafourche Parish Sheriff Craig Webre has identified the deputy who was killed in a police pursuit Sunday morning. 44-year-old Sergeant Nicholas Pepper died after a suspect rammed into Sergeant Pepper’s unit. Pepper began his career with the Sheriff’s office in 2007. The suspect was taken into custody and the investigation is ongoing.

LSU Lady Tigers are the NCAA national champions of women’s basketball. LSU scored a 102-85 win over the Iowa Hawkeyes last night. Angel Reese scored 15 points with ten rebounds, giving her an NCAA record 34th double-double for the season. Reese was also named the Most Outstanding Player of the tournament.

Requiring parental consent for children 16 and younger to use social media platforms is the foundation of a bill proposed by Covington Senator Patrick McMath. The measure would give parents a path to take companies to court who they believe were negligent in children being harmed. The Republican from St. Tammany Parish says Utah passed a similar bill but his bill is designed to protect children’s mental well-being.

Kim Mulkey and the LSU Tigers women’s Basketball team beat the Iowa Hawkeyes –  earning their first NCAA national championship. Angel Reese had 15 points and ten rebounds but found herself in foul trouble during the second quarter. Reese says the team has collectively been a great support the entire season.

Senator Patrick McMath – a father of four – has filed a bill that would require children 16 and younger to have parental consent to download social media apps.  McMath says this is a step to give parents the opportunity to safeguard their children in the social media world.

The bill would also place time restrictions on when children can participate on social media platforms that have five million or more users.

A Lafourche Parish Sheriff’s deputy was killed early Sunday morning during a police chase that started in Houma when an officer attempted to pull over a vehicle on a traffic violation. The chase ended when the suspect rammed his vehicle into a deputy’s vehicle, killing 44-year-old Detective Sergeant Nicholas Pepper. The suspect is in custody.
